Joachim Cooder to perform Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — Rainshadow Concerts will present Joachim Cooder with Rayna Gellert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Palindrome at Eaglemount Cidery

Tickets for the show at 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road in Port Townsend are $25 each online at www.ticketstorm.com/e/29361/t/ or $30 cash at the door.

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joachim Cooder, the son of blues guitar legend Ry Cooder, used the plain-spoken songs of Uncle Dave Macon as a starting point for his 2020 album “Over That Road I’m Bound: The Songs of Uncle Dave Macon.”

He has also released two other solo albums, 2012’s “Love on a Real Train” and a 2018 EP, “Machu Picchu.”

He performed percussion on the Havana sessions that produced “Buena Vista Social Club” and recorded with a wide range of performers, including Mavis Staples, Jon Hassell, Dr. John and Ali Farka Touré.

Gellert, a fiddler and singer-songwriter, started out playing jam sessions and square dances before embarking on a life of traveling and performing.

Gellert was a member of the string band Uncle Earl, with whom she released two albums on Rounder Records. She also toured with songwriter Scott Miller and with Uncle Earl bandmate Abigail Washburn.

Gellert has recorded with a host of musicians in a variety of styles including Robyn Hitchcock, Tyler Ramsey, Sara Watkins, Loudon Wainwright III, John Paul Jones and Joachim Cooder.
