But that was his only bad inning.

Smith gave up no hits, no runs and no walks but he hit a batter and the Vikings had two errors for three Port Angeles base runners.

Smith also struck out eight.

AJ Konopaski (1-1) of Port Angeles had a decent game as he gave up just six hits and fanned four in 4 1/3 innings but couldn’t compete against near perfection.

The Vikings improved to 8-0 and are ranked eighth in Class 3A.

The Riders are now 3-3 in league and 3-4 overall.

Port Angeles next hosts Olympic on Wednesday at Volunteer Field.

Webb improved her record to 2-3 while helping Port Angeles to a 4-1 record in the Olympic League and 5-4 overall.

“You have to hand it to our girls for doing what they needed to do while the North Kitsap girls didn’t give up despite the outcome.”

Kelsey Hinsdale went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer, two doubles and five RBIs while Danielle Grall went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, three runs scored and three RBIs.

Girls Tennis North Mason 5,

Chimacum/Port Townsend 2

CHIMACUM — The combined team of the Cowboys and Redskins won two singles matches but the Bulldogs won the rest.

Chimacum/Port Townsend fell to 0-3.

Tina Dietz won at No. 2 singles for the combined squad by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Chunpeng Stankus took the No. 3 singles match, losing 6-4, 7-5.

“Those were two exciting wins for us,” longtime tennis coach Laurie Olafson said.

Maria Nesset gave it a strong go at No. 1 singles, losing 6-1, 6-4.

The Bulldogs dominated the doubles matches, winning all four.

Chimacum/Port Townsend did not win a set in doubles but the combined team features two varsity doubles teams with two freshmen each.

There are about 12 Chimacum players on the team and eight from Port Townsend. Last year there were only four or five Redskins playing in the program.

“There may be more Port Townsend players next year,” Olafson said.

The teams got the match in despite constant rain.

“I couldn’t believe we got the match in,” Olafson said.

Chimacum/Port Townsend next hosts Bremerton on Thursday.
