PREP VOLLEYBALL: East Jefferson girls dig out of 2-0 hole to beat Charles Wright

CHIMACUM — The East Jefferson girls volleyball team came from two games down to beat Charles Wright in five games 3-2 (19-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-12 and 15-6) to remain in the upper half of the Nisqually League standings.

“The team had a good start and then turned on the heat, adjusting to what Charles Wright was throwing at them,” said coach Carrie Beebe. “By the third set, our team adapted their coverage, which resulted in being able to shut down the CW offense.”

Several Rivals put up big stats in the five-set match. Stephy Duran had 23 serves, 10 of them going for aces, and 21 digs. Dylin Shockley had eight kills and 18 digs.

Setter Gracee Liske had 32 assists and 16 serves. Penina Vailolo had 16 kills, seven blocks, two aces and 22 digs.

Kaydence Plotner had five kills and 29 digs, while Carina Shiflett had six kills and five blocks.

“The Rivals stayed positive, exuding great energy, that drove them to a strong win, putting us at 9-3 for the season standings,” Beebe said.

The Rivals (2-1 in league) next host Klahowya (1-2, 5-6) in Chimacum at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Rivals’ senior night match is 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 against Bellevue Christian.
