PORT ANGELES — The Capital Cougars took home the team title at the 22nd annual Duke Streeter Invitational with a six-stroke win over Port Townsend at Peninsula Golf Club.
Host Port Angeles finished in a tie for third with Chimacum at the annual event held in memory of Streeter, a longtime youth golf supporter and Peninsula member.
Teams from Sequim and Central Kitsap also participated.
Class 3A Capital shot a total of 9-under-par in the two-man scramble format event Friday.
Capital’s Eric Hagan and Gabe Barnes teamed to shoot the low round of the day, a 5-under-par 67. Teammates Travis Bossio and Kannon Sowers finished a stroke back at 68.
The Redhawks finished at 3-under-par as a team.
Austin Khile and Patrick Morton tied for third at 2-under-par with Port Townsend teammates Keegan Khile and Jacob Ralls and Chimacum’s Chris Bainbridge and James Porter.
Sebastian Thomas and Jaime Peake shot a round of 73 for the Redhawks to finish seventh.
Aidan Hartnett and Nate Miller posted an 84 and Logan Storm and Kai Dickerson (88) also competed for the Cowboys
Mathew Locke and Parker Elias provided the best finish for the Roughriders, shooting 77 to tie for ninth.
Port Angeles’ Logan Kovalenko and Royce Duncan notched a 79 and Ben Fowler and Cameron Fouts shot 86.
Sequim sent three teams of underclassmen to the tournament.
Freshmen Blake Wiker and Liam Payne teamed to shoot a 74, Josiah Carter and Joey Oliver carded an 85, and Liam Stevenson and Gavin Happe shot 93
“All coaches and players extended a very warm thanks to the membership at Peninsula for their gracious hospitality,” Port Angeles coach Gil Stockton said.
Sequim wins Higgins Memorial
BREMERTON — Sequim brought home the Tim Higgins Memorial golf tournament team trophy for the first time in the 50th anniversary edition of the event.
The Wolves shot a team total of 53-over-par 337 to top 10 other teams, including Chimacum and Port Townsend, in the four-person stroke play format at Kitsap Golf and Country Club on Thursday.
Jack Shea had the highest individual finish for Sequim, tying for second with Olympic’s C.J. Lagat at 5-over-par 76.
Central Kitsap freshman Brittany Kwon shot 75 to become just the third girl to win the individual title.
Freshman Blake Wiker carded an 82 for the Wolves. Jade Arnold shot an 85, and Alex McMenamin, the Sequim girls team’s lone participant, had a 94.
Chimacum (366) finished fifth as a team led by rounds of 79 by Marcus Bufford and Chris Bainbridge.
“There were only five golfers today that broke 80 and Chimacum had two,” Cowboys coach Darren Posey said.
James Porter added an 83 for Chimacum, and Logan Stacy struggled on the difficult course, shooting a 125.
Sebastian Thomas and Jacob Ralls led Port Townsend with rounds of 87 as the Redhawks (380) finished sixth.
Jaime Peake, 95, and Keegan Khile, 98, rounded out the scoring for Port Townsend.
