PREP FOOTBALL UPDATE: Sequim and Port Angeles lose Thursday night, will face each other in three-team playoff Tuesday for postseason berth

SEQUIM — Sequim and Port Angeles each gave each other golden opportunities to lock down a postseason berth but neither capitalized Thursday night.

The Wolves lost at home to Bremerton 14-13, and the Roughriders fell on the road to Kingston 23-7.

Now, the teams will play each other in a half-game on Tuesday in the opening half of a three-team tiebreaker with Kingston for the Olympic League’s fourth and final playoff spot.

The Wolves and Riders will face off for two eight-minute quarters. The winning team will advance to play Kingston in another half-game.

The location of the tiebreaker is still being decided, but it likely will be played at North Kitsap’s field or Silverdale Stadium.

Bremerton 14, Sequim 13

The Wolves scored with two minutes to play on a 5-yard pass from Miguel Moroles to Bailey Earley.

A penalty moved the PAT try back and then an early snap forced a kick that fell short of the uprights.

Sequim got the ball back at its own 14-yard line with 1:01 to play.

A 43-yard pass to Earley and a 44-yard hook up with Gavin Velarde moved the ball to the Bremerton 20.

But incomplete passes and penalties stalled the drive and Adrian Espinoza was forced to try and miss a difficult 47-yard field goal in heavy rain.

The win was the Knights’ first in league play this season.

Calvin Cardwell rushed 26 times for 175 yards.

For Sequim, Moroles completed 9 of 16 passes for 210 yards, 139 of those in the fourth quarter, and two scores, both to Earley.

Kingston 23, Port Angeles 7

KINGSTON — The Roughriders were bottled up offensively by a spirited Kingston defense Thursday night.

Port Angeles trailed 6-0 at halftime after a 32-yard seam route from Buccaneers sophomore Jack Colletto to junior Tanner Draper.

A long Port Angeles drive inside the Kingston 10-yard line ended with a 73-yard interception return to set up a 40-yard field goal for a 9-0 lead.

The Buccaneers added two quick scores in the fourth quarter, a 36-yard fumble recovery and a 3-yard rush from Garrett Rouser to go up 23-0. Port Angeles’ Kellen Landry scored from 7 yards out with less than 2 minutes to play.
