PORT ANGELES — Getting a one-hitter out of Kaleb Mullen and Maeson Grice and a big day at the plate from Josiah Gooding and Alex Angevine, the Port Angeles baseball team crushed Kingston and put themselves in position to earn at least a share of the Olympic League title.
After Friday’s win, the Riders are 11-2 in the league, tied with North Kitsap. The Riders play Kingston again Monday, while North Kitsap plays Bremerton, the last-place team in the league, so the Vikings can be expected to win that game. If the Riders win Monday, they will likely tie with North Kitsap for the title. North Kitsap and Port Angeles split two games against each other, so there is no tiebreaker there.
Mullen started and went four innings, allowing just one hit. He struck out nine. Grice pitched one inning and struck out two. They combined to walk just three batters.
At the plate, Gooding hit a pair of doubles, stole two bases, scored a run and drove in three. Angevine was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Ezra Townsend was 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and RBI, and Colten Romero was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a run scored and a walk.
Luke Flodstrom was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Nate Basden had a hit, a run scored and two stolen bases.
Port Angeles (11-2, 15-4) plays at Kingston (6-7, 9-8) at 4:15 p.m. Monday.

BREMERTON — The Sequim baseball team’s six-game winning streak was snapped by Olympic on Friday, as the Wolves had their first off-day in weeks, committing six errors and allowing 16 hits in a 15-5 loss.
Despite the loss, the Wolves still have a good shot to finish third among the 2A teams in the Olympic League if they can beat Olympic in a rematch and if Port Angeles can beat Kingston, which has the same record as Sequim.
In Friday’s loss, Zeke Schmadeke had a big game with two doubles, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Bryant Laboy had a hit and two RBIs.
Schmadeke pitched three innings, allowing seven hits but only one earned run. He struck out two.
The Wolves (6-7, 10-8) host Olympic at 4:15 p.m. Monday.

FORKS — The Forks softball team used pitching in one game and hitting in the other to sweep a pair of games from Ocosta 5-4 and 12-5, remaining perfect in Pacific 2B League play.
The Spartans managed just four hits in the early win, but pitcher Chloe Gaydeski kept Ocosta at bay by pitching a complete-game five-hitter herself. She allowed four earned runs and struck out seven.
Keira Johnson had a hit, run scored and two RBIs, while Bailey Johnson had a hit, two runs scored and an RBI. Lizzy Soto hit a double and scored a run.
In the second game, the Spartans’ bats came alive, especially Soto’s.
Forks pounded out 16 hits as Soto was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three stolen bases, two runs scored and five RBIs.
Bailey Johnson was 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs scored, an RBI and a walk and Kaidence Rigby was 3-for-4, two runs scored and an RBI.
Soto pitched six innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs. She struck out three. Gaydeski pitched an inning of relief, allowing one hit.
Forks (6-0, 11-3) has a huge doubleheader coming up, hosting second-place Ilwaco (4-1, 7-3) at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday.
