NORTH OLYMPIC DISCOVERY MARATHON: Kids medal grand prize winner announced

PORT ANGELES — Dry Creek Elementary School student John Ruddell, 12, is the Grand Prize winner of the 2021 North Olympic Discovery Marathon kids medal design contest.

This is the marathon’s Fifth Annual Medal Design Contest. Port Angeles YMCA Youth and Government selected the grand prize winner and the runner-ups. Port Angeles YMCA Youth and Government helps to put on the kids’ marathon every year. The kids marathon medal is presented to all children who cross the finish line at the annual fun run event in June.

Ruddell will work with Race Director Victoria Jones and the medal design team at Ashworth Awards to fine-tune and finalize the kids marathon medal.

Abby Schildknecht, Dry Creek Elementary School, 8.

Xyla Reichner, Helen Haller Elementary School, 9.

Skylar Lockhart, Jefferson Elementary School, 11.

All contest winners receive an entry into the Kids Marathon event, a special certificate and a thank-you goodie bag. The 18th annual Kids Marathon will be held at 3 p.m. June 5 at the Port Angeles City Pier.
