TACOMA — Cameron Braithwaite had three first-place showings and Jayson Brocklesby, Jolene Millsap and Hannah Hudson helped the Olympic College men and women place third at the Peyton Scoring Meet at the University of Puget Sound.
Braithwaite, a 2012 Port Angeles High School graduate, led the University of Puget Sound men to a first-place finish at Saturday’s meet by winning the pole vault with a mark of 14 feet, 2.5 inches, and the long jump with a 21-05.5.
Braithwaite also helped the Loggers win the 4×400 relay and take third in the 4×100 relay.
Millsap, a 2014 Port Angeles graduate, finished second in the 200-meter dash for Olympic and fifth in the 100.
She and Hudson, a 2014 Sequim graduate, helped the Rangers win the girls 4×100 relay and take second in the 4×400 relay.
“Jolene ran a 58.7 split on the 4×400, and Hannah ran great legs on both relays,” Olympic coach Dan Dittmer said.
Busy Brocklesby
A day after finishing third at the Mount Hood Multi Meet in Gresham, Ore., Brocklesby competed in four events at Saturday’s meet.
The 2013 Sequim graduate finished second in the high jump, fourth in the 100, fourth in the pole vault and eighth in the javelin.
He was limited to four events at the Peyton meet after spending two days competing in the decathlon at the Mount Hood meet.
“He was pooped when done,” Dittmer said.
Brocklesby finished the Mount Hood meet Friday with 6,300 points in the decathlon, a new personal record for the Olympic College sophomore.
On the second day of the meet, he ran the 110 hurdles in 16.61 seconds and the 1,500 in 4:47.02. He threw the discus 105 feet, 2 inches, and the javelin 154 feet, 8 inches, and had a pole vault of 11 feet, 10 inches.
Baseball
Cray leads way in Seattle sweep
EDINBURG, Texas — Chimacum’s Landon Cray helped the Seattle University baseball team sweep three road games from University of Texas-Pan American on Friday and Saturday.
Cray, who graduated from Chimacum High School in 2012, went 3 for 4 with two walks, a double, a triple, three RBI and five runs for the Redhawks in their 16-6 win in eight innings on Saturday.
Cray also had a hit and a run in Friday’s 9-6 win and in Sunday’s 4-0 victory.
Cray, a junior, is third on the team with a .294 batting average and leads the Redhawks with 19 walks.
Uvila on point for Georgia State
ARLINGTON, Texas — Junior Cole Uvila of Port Angeles allowed six hits and one run in six innings Sunday to help Georgia State sweep the series with University of Texas-Arlington.
Uvila gave the Panthers a solid start to help them earn a three-game sweep, their first since joining the Sun Belt Conference.
Uvila, a 2012 Port Angeles graduate, pitched two years at Pierce College before signing with Georgia State last year.
