AREA SPORTS: Rivals youth football registration Aug. 8 and 10 in Chimacum

Rivals football registration set Aug. 8 & 10

CHIMACUM — East Jefferson Rivals youth football will hold in-person regular season registration and gear distribution on Aug. 8 and 10 at H.J. Carroll Park in Chimacum.

The Aug. 8 registration runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. while the Aug. 10 event goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

An all-league meeting followed by the first practice will be held at Chimacum High School at 5 p.m. Aug. 12.

All players and parents must be present.

River Center tourney

SEQUIM — The sixth annual Dungeness River Center Charity Golf Tournament is set for Aug. 24 at The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.

The four-person scramble format event will tee off with a 9:15 a.m. shotgun start.

Entries are $100 per person and includes green fees, cart use, range balls, lunch and prizes.

All proceeds benefit operation expenses and education programs at the River Center.

Team USA advances

PARIS — Joel Embiid, the 2022-23 NBA MVP and the starting center for their first six games this summer, didn’t play in the team’s 103-86 blowout win over South Sudan at the Olympics on Wednesday evening.

Bam Adebayo led the U.S. with 18 points and added seven reboundsLeBron James finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

With the win Wednesday they clinched a spot in the Olympic quarterfinals Tuesday.
