PC’s Dixon to play basketball for Cougars

PORT ANGELES — Former Peninsula College men’s basketball standout, Deonte Dixon, will play his final year of college basketball at Washington State University.

The Bremerton High School star and former Olympic League MVP led the Pirates in scoring with a 15.3 points per game average in 2015-16, and also led the PC men to a North Division championship. He went on to play for Ave Maria University in Florida and this year transferred to Washington State University.

“We couldn’t be happier to see Deonte continue to chase his dream of playing in the PAC-12,” Freeman said. “He worked so hard to put himself in the position that he’s in right now, and we expect him to contribute to WSU’s success’ right away.”

Also playing on at four-year schools this year are four players from last year’s squad, Cole Rabedeaux, Jalon McCullough, Alex Baham and Omar Lo.

Rabedeaux will play his sophomore season at the University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire.

“Although we only had Cole for one year, he made a huge impact in that one year,” Freeman said. “One of our top scorers at 11 points per game and toughest competitors, who helped us win 19 games last season.”

McCullough and Baham, who played their high school hoops in Alaska, will both continue their careers at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

“Jalon was at PC for two years, red-shirting one year and playing one year. He is a smart, quick, and tough guard who played much bigger than what he is. He has a winner’s mentality and competitiveness that every coach needs to have on their team,” Freeman said of McCullough.

“Alex is arguably one of the best shooters I have ever been around,” Freeman said. “He shot close to 50 percent from the three and was a very underrated athlete. He will have a positive impact at the University of Alaska right away.”

Finally Lo signed with the University of Notre Dame da Namur.

“Omar has only gotten better and better and will continue to grow as an athlete and player at Notre Dame da Namur,” Freeman said. “He is by far one of the most versatile players that we have had at PC and we expect him to contribute right away for the Argonaut’s.”
