Hurricane Hill climb set for this weekend

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Motorcycle Club is holding its first major Hurricane Hill climb races of the summer Saturday and Sunday at the OPMC hillclimb park up Deer Park Road.

The gates open at 6 a.m. with races beginning at 9 a.m. People are encouraged to bring lawn and camp chairs.

More than 150 entries, ranging from 50cc to unlimited open class, are expected to come to the Hurricane Hill climb for the two days of racing up the 400-foot-high Hurricane Hill. Racers are expected from Oregon, British Columbia and all over Washington.

Classes include pee wee, mini and pit bikes, stock/vintage/old-timers and modified/exhibition.

The cost is $10 per day with senior citizens and kids under 10 free. Overnight parking is $5 a night.

BMX Olympic Day

PORT ANGELES — The Lincoln BMX Park will hold an Olympic Day on Sunday.

The USABMX has teamed up with the United State Olympic Committee to offer a free one-day membership and free racing for anyone who wants to attend and race. All ages are invited from 2 years old to 70-plus.

Signups are from Noon to 1 p.m. with racing starting shortly afterward. Riders need to wear long sleeves, long pants and closed-toe shoes. Lincoln BMX park can provide bikes and helmets.

The Lincoln Park BMX is also hosting Washington State Championship Series races on June 30. State series races are open to all riders.

The series consists of multi-point races that award state points in addition to district points. In Washington, riders count their four best scores, plus their finals to determine overall rankings in each age group.

There are 12 state series races held from March to August. The Washington State Finals will be held August 24 and 25 at Lincoln Park BMX.
