Ludlow Village Players stage ‘No Crime’ for spring

PORT LUDLOW — Spring has arrived on the Olympic Peninsula, which means it’s also live theater season at the Bay Club in Port Ludlow.

Bill Gleason’s “No Crime Like the Present” is this year’s Ludlow Village Players’ production, again under the direction of Val Durling.

A special premiere performance is slated for 7 tonight at the Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Place.

The opening night audience will enjoy surprises, from gourmet goodies to special gifts.

Other performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and again April 5-7, also at 7 p.m. Sunday matinees will be at 2 p.m.

Admission for all performances is $17 at the Bay Club or through www.brownpapertickets.com.

Doors will open a half-hour before showtime.

The comedy mixes a jazzy bluesy 1940s feel with a modern newsroom, according to a press release.

Private eye Mavis Davis, whose sultry demeanor exudes a “Sam Spade” aura, is accompanied by her soul mate trumpeter, Max, with his wailing horn crying, “Whodunnit?”

Mavis and Max are investigating the KDOA-TV newsroom, volatile with clashing egos, where the beautiful anchorwoman is murdered on live television.

“Cassandra Dumont was on her way to the top and she was willing to step on a few toes to get there. In fact, half the people in the city had a limp,” organizers said.

“As co-anchor of the Six O’Clock News at television station KDOA, she had made enough enemies to fill a phone book.

“So it was no big surprise when somebody decided to cancel her ticket. Everybody who knew her had a motive.”

Gleason has a number of plays to his credit, including “All Through the House,” “The Calamityville Horror,” “Happy Daze,” “Louder, I Can’t Hear You” and “The Worst High School Play in the World.”
