Blue Whole Gallery to open exhibit on Friday

SEQUIM — Mary Franchini and Sheri Whetsine will open their joint exhibit, “Fire and Water,” from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

The exhibit will be at the Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., Sequim.

Whetstine, a former firefighter, works in glass, often using a kiln to transform it into her art.

“Sometimes I cut and place glass with careful intention; other times, I embrace spontaneity, letting fragments merge in unexpected ways,” Whetsine said.

Franchini works in acrylics and mixed media, using the local beauty to inspire her creativity.

“I love to simplify landscapes and bring my own colors in and leave out what I don’t want,” Franchini said, “pushing colors to please me and emphasizing areas that I really like.”

“Fire and Water” will be on display at the gallery from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.

Both Franchini and Whetstine will be at a reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 18 during the Sequim Art Walk.
