FORKS — Forks dropped Elma 25-19, 31-29, 25-23 to force a tie for second place in the Evergreen League 1A volleyball standings.
“Earlier in the season we lost to Elma in four games,” head coach Patty Brandt said.
“My team has shown so much improvement over the last few weeks. I believe that we will peak in postseason and surprise some teams at the district playoffs.”
Forks (4-4, 10-5) will take the second seed to the Southwest District 4 playoffs, and will open the postseason against Trico League No. 2 Castle Rock (11-3) at Montesano at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Bailey Queen led the way in Thursday’s win with 11 kills and seven service aces.
Freshman Rian Peters added six kills and three stuff blocks.
Jayden Olsen contributed four kills, while Julia Lausche distributed 16 assists.
Skyler DeMatties served 100 percent and had three aces and Kierra Brandt notched seven aces.
Olympic 3, Port Angeles 2
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders’ season came to an early end in a 25-20, 17-25, 25-17, 22-25 13-15 Olympic League Tournament loss to the Trojans.
Port Angeles was playing its fourth game in as many days Thursday, after having to play in a tie-breaker for the league’s third and fourth playoff spots, a loss to Kingston, on Wednesday.
“The girls played so hard,” Riders coach Christine Halberg said.
“It was their fourth match in a row and [they] didn’t let their tired bodies show. It was one of their best energy-filled games which makes it even a tougher loss. I’m proud of the way they pushed through tonight. It showed a lot of character.”
Senior Kiana Robideau led Port Angeles with 11 kills, and added five digs, four blocks and four aces in her last match for the Riders.
Alyssa Sweet totaled seven kills, four digs and two aces for Port Angeles (6-7, 7-9).
Aeverie Politika added five kills, and setter Callie Hall had 24 assists.
Quilcene wins title
TACOMA — The unbeaten Rangers (17-0) added a district title to their Sea-Tac League Championship with three straight three-set sweeps this week.
Quilcene knocked off Pope John Paul to open district play then took care of business in the semifinals and finals.
“[We] played strong at our district tournament this year, first beating fourth-place Evergreen Lutheran and then last year’s league champion Christian Faith also in three [sets].
“We came in first in league this year earning a first place seed into Tri-Districts. We find out the rest of the bracket after the D1 teams in the North have their tournament on Saturday (tomorrow).
Quilcene won the District 2 volleyball championship to earn a No. 1 seed to the tri-district tournament at Crescent next Saturday.
