PREP ROUNDUP: Sequim volleyball keeps rolling

PORT ANGELES — The Sequim volleyball girls took care of business against Port Angeles, winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-21) to maintain a tight hold on second place in the Olympic League 2A Division.

For the Riders, Aeverie Politika served 11 for 11 with even kills. Nacia Bohman served 8 for 8 with three aces and Emi Halberg served 5 for 5 with four kills and five digs. Kylie Rentas served 8 for 8, while Emma Olson has six digs and Kennedy Bruch seven digs.

“[Port Angeles] served consistently tonight without any errors which has been a focus for them — mental toughness — control what we can control,” said Riders coach Christine Grunch-Halberg. “Their energy was really good at times which showed in the runs to bridge the gaps. We improved tonight on some things that we have been working on like blocking, defense and back row attacking.”

The Wolves usually split setting duties between Kalli Wiker and Brittney Gale, but Gale was out of town. Wiker had the sole setting duties and she responded with 22 assists and eight digs, while also serving 27 for 27 with four aces. Coach Jennie Webber-Heilman said Wiker had two separate runs of seven straight points serving.

Isabelle Dennis served 9 for 9 with 25 digs and Tayler Breckenridge had 12 kills and 26 digs.

Jayla Julmist had seven stuff blocks and 10 kills.

“Kalli did a great job of spreading it out,” Webber-Heilman said. “Jayla was hitting last night. She’s getting more confident with her hitting.”
