PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: East Jefferson girls go to double OT to win

Sequim boys’ rally comes up just short

CHIMACUM — East Jefferson got huge games from freshman Penina Vialolo and sophomore Juliette O’Hara in pulling out a clutch 44-40 double-overtime win over Vashon this weekend.

Vialolo contributed 22 rebounds and hit some big free throws in overtime. O’Hara scored all six of the Rivals’ points in the second overtime with the Rivals’ top scorer, Alyssa Vandenberg, fouled out.

“Wonderful win for the program,” said coach Lorraine Rimson. “JV won, too. Two great team character-building wins.”

The victory evened the Rivals’ league record at 3-3. East Jefferson, 3-6 overall, next plays at Annie Wright (6-1, 7-1) on Tuesday.

“That was our most balanced offense game of the year,” said coach David Hurn, who singled out freshman Gaydeski-St. John for a strong game.

“Chloe has been working hard the past couple of weeks. That was her best game of her young high school career,” he said.

The Spartans (5-0, 7-3) next play at Chief Leschi (3-2, 6-4) on Tuesday as part of a long stretch on the road. Forks has six road games in January.

JOYCE — The Crescent Loggers dominated the boards and built up a 30-point lead in a 63-47 win over Taholah this weekend.

“We got another nonleague game under our belt against a really scrappy Taholah team. It was a good bounce back after our last game [a loss to Summit Classical],” said coach Chris Ferrier.

“We really played with tremendous defensive effort in the first half, limiting Taholah to one shot on just about every possession. We also did a really good job of getting the ball inside against the zone,” Ferrier said.

Three Loggers had double figures. Conner Ferro-May led the team with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Conner Bauers had 11 points and six assists and Lukas Love contributed 12 points.

Crescent (7-3) next plays Tuesday at Chief Kitsap.
