PREP BASKETBALL: Neah Bay’s Abraham Venske picked to play in All-State game Saturday

SAMMAMISH — Neah Bay senior Abraham Venske will play in the Class 1B/2B Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association, or WIBCA, All-State Game Saturday at Eastside Catholic High School.

Venske led the Red Devils (20-4) in every major statistical category this season, guiding them to a second-place finish at the Class 1B state tournament in Spokane.

Venske’s per-game averages were 17.1 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.5 blocks.

He also eclipsed the career 1,000-point mark this year, surpassing the mark in the Red Devils’ state quarterfinal win over Pomeroy.

Venske has received recruiting interest from Peninsula College.

The 1B vs. 2B game begins at 2 p.m., with doors opening at 1 p.m.

Admission is $10 per adult, $8 for seniors, high school students and children 12 and younger.

The 1A vs. 2A and 3A vs. 4A games follow at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

The coaches association also will present the respective state players of the year, coaches of the year, and the state Mr. Basketball award.

Joining Venske on the 1B team is WICBA 1B Player of the Year Tyler Thurman of Garfield-Palouse, Kavarez Lane of Lummi, Joseph Sanchey of Yakama Tribal, Keanu Curleybear of Taholah, Darren Broersma of Sunnyside Christian, Tyson Feider and Cole Mayfield of Pomeroy, and Mitch Jamison of Garfield-Palouse.
