OLYMPIC LEAGUE SOFTBALL: Port Angeles, Sequim players fill first- and second-team rosters

PA’s Heidi Leitz named league MVP

BREMERTON — Port Angeles and Sequim placed a total of 12 players on the Olympic League All-League softball teams, with Port Angeles’ Heidi Leitz not suprisingly named the league MVP.

Port Angeles’ Abby Kimball was named the offensive player of the year, while Sequim catcher Mikki Green was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Leitz and Kimball led the Roughriders to a 22-3-1 record, the league and district championships and to the state tournament, where they finished second, falling 2-1 in the championship game to Aberdeen.

Leitz excelled at both the plate and in the circle. She hit .405 with four home runs, 20 RBIs and 33 runs scored. In the circle, she was 9-1 during the regular season and added a no-hitter, a one-hitter and a perfect game at the state tournament. She finished with 194 strikeouts.

Kimball hit .438 with five home runs and 29 RBIs, hitting .536 during the regular season. Green, primarily a catcher in her Sequim career, had a .925 fielding percentage and committed just four errors all season.

Making the first team infield were Port Angeles’ Kennedy Rognlien (.463, four home runs) and Sequim infielder Mia Kirner (.580, 31 RBIs) made all-league first team.

Making second team were Port Angeles pitcher Lynzee Reid (7-1, two saves, plus four scoreless innings in the state championship game. She also hit .481 with four home runs and 36 runs scored), and her Riders teammates Lexie Smith (.381, six HRs, 34 RBIs) and Morgan Politika (.411).

Making the second team outfield were Port Angeles’ Ana-Anne Sheahan (.303, eight doubles) and Mikkhia Stevens (.333). Sequim’s Kiley Winter (.378) also made the second-team outfield.

Making the honorable mention team as an outfielder was Sequim’s Hannah Giddings (.463, 16 RBIs).

Winning league sportsmanship awards were Adi Richard for Port Angeles and Manuella Valle for Sequim.
