ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Mia Pozernick, Sequim softball

Sequim’s Mia Pozernick had a heck of an April for the Wolves’ softball squad.

First of all, she hit a three-run home run to help beat Olympic Peninsula rival Port Angeles on April 18. She followed that up on April 25 with a 5-for-5 performance at the plate in a 24-1 victory over Bremerton. Pozernick had a home run and seven RBIs in that game.

On Thursday, she added a two-run home run against North Kitsap and on Saturday, she had another monster game with her fourth home run in two weeks and four RBIs against Gig Harbor. She had another two-RBI game in an April 21 win over Bainbridge. That’s four home runs and 18 RBIs in her past five games.

Pozernick is a big part of the reason the Wolves have vaulted to the upper half of the Olympic League standings after a slow start to their season.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
