PC volleyball league sign ups open now

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Volleyball League, a competitive indoor coed league for adult volleyball players, will kick off its 23rd year on Nov. 9 at the Peninsula College Gym.

Teams can secure a spot in the Thursday night league, and individuals can get their names on a list to be placed on teams, by contacting Rick Ross at rross@pencol.edu or 360-417-6533.

Players must be age 16 or older.

The entry fee of $300 per team is due Nov. 16.

Youth hoops tryouts

SEQUIM — Sequim Youth Basketball hosts tryouts for select/travel teams for boys and girls in grades 5-8.

Tryouts for the boys 5-6 team are 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, and Monday, Oct. 16, at Sequim Middle School (301 W. Hendrickson Road), and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 21, at Sequim High School, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Tryouts for the boys 7-8 team are 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, and Monday, Oct. 16, at Sequim Middle School, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 21, at Sequim High School.

Tryouts for the girls 5-8 team are 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Sequim Middle School. If enough players are interested, program officials say, they will add a second tryout date for the team from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21.

Ellis in EWU Hall

CHENEY — Ryan Ellis, a 1992 Port Angeles High School graduate, was honored recently by his alma mater, Eastern Washington University.

Ellis was part of Eastern Washington University’s 1992 football team, the first Big Sky Conference champions in school history. The team was inducted into the Eastern Washington University Athletics of Hall of Fame during the Eagles’ game with Sacramento State last Saturday.

Coached by Dick Zornes, Eastern finished 6-1 in Big Sky action, 7-4 overall, and advanced to the NCAA Division I-AA Playoffs in 1992.

Ellis played quarterback for Port Angeles and Eastern.
