Photography show to be held at The Meadery

PORT TOWNSEND — Twenty-five photos will tell 25 stories through January at The Meadery at Wilderbee Farm, 223 Cook Ave. Extension, Port Townsend.

The show, sponsored by Northwind Art gallery exhibits and art school, will feature the work of more than two dozen photographers from Jefferson and Clallam counties. An open reception will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Meadery.

Photos are themed on a maxim popularized by early 20th century newspaper publishers.

“A Thousand Words … Pictures that Tell a Story All on Their Own,” was curated by Port Townsend photographers Jeff Sweet, Brian Goodman and Rick York, who hung the third annual Print Night photography show.

The photos were submitted by participants in monthly Print Night meetings held at the Northwind Art classroom, Building 324 on Fort Worden.

“These are photographs that are going to hold people’s interest, other than, say, just a landscape,” York said.

“They have a human element or environmental element that encourages the viewer to spend a little extra time with the image and make up their own story about the image.”

Print Night will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. every second Monday. Photographers share up to six unframed prints each. A suggested $5 donation is requested per person to help cover the cost of using Northwind Art’s classroom.

“Everybody is welcome,” York said. “You don’t have to share prints to be part of Print Night. Come and be part of the conversation.”

“A Thousand Words” is among four art presentations held yearly at The Meadery, open from noon to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
