Bulla to perform at Palindrome on Sunday

PORT TOWNSEND — Rainshadow Concerts will present Luke Bulla in concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

The event will be in the Palindrome at Eaglemount Cidery, 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road, Port Townsend.

The Nashville-based musician has been playing the fiddle since he was 7. He won in his age category at the National Fiddle Contest in Weiser, Idaho, six times, and at 16, he won the contest’s Grand Champion division.

Bulla also plays the guitar, mandolin, sings and writes songs.

He started his career playing fiddle for Ricky Skaggs in the band Kentucky Thunder and earned a Grammy award with the band in 2000 for Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album, “Soldier of the Cross.”

Bulla and longtime friend Casey Driessen formed the band Wisechild and toured briefly with John Mayer and Counting Crows.

He also was a member of the John Cowan Band and has performed or recorded with such artists as Brandi Carlile, Jim Lauderdale, Darrell Scott, Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, Edgar Meyer, Bela Fleck, Bryan Sutton, Kevin Costner & Modern West, Russ Barenberg Trio, Shawn Colvin, Tony Rice, Chris Thile, Peter Rowan, Patty Griffin, Glen Phillips, Rodney Crowell and Earl Scruggs.

Bulla released a solo EP featuring Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, Bela Fleck and Aoife O’Donovan in 2009 before joining Lyle Lovett’s Large Band, with whom he toured full time until 2023.
