VOLLEYBALL: Sequim Wolves hold serve in sweep of Olympic

SEQUIM — Sequim opened with a taste of what was to come in a 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 sweep of Olympic in an Olympic League volleyball match Tuesday.

“Kassi Montero started off the game with an ace, and we rattled off the first six points with four of them aces,” Wolves coach Jennie Webber Heilman said. “That kind of set the tone for the game. We were serving pretty tough as a group. I’m pretty sure we hit our goal of having 90 percent serving, and we had 21 aces and only gave up eight, so that helps a lot.”

“We kind of had them figured out from the first time we played them [a 3-1 non-league win on Sept. 13].”

Kenzi Berglund led Sequim at the service line, going 17-for-17 with seven aces. Berglund also had two kills and three digs.

Montero was 12-for-13 with seven aces, two kills and two digs.

Madi Salazar went 5-for-5 with a kill, a stuff block and two digs.

Sydney Clark went 5-for-6 with two aces, one kill and two digs.

Rose Gibson and Tiffany Lam led the Wolves defense, Webber Heilman said.

Rose Gibson went 8-for-9 on serves, with five kills, two assists and seven digs.

Lam had seven digs.

Freshman Jordyn Julmist posted three kills and three digs.

Sequim (3-1, 4-2) will visit rival Port Angeles tonight at 6:30 p.m.
