PORT ANGELES — Double winners Kelly Winn, Kaitlin Fairchild and Tracie Macias sparked Port Angeles to a dominating win over Port Townsend in girls swimming Tuesday at William Shore Memorial Pool.
The perfect Roughriders (2-0 in Olympic League and overall) beat the Redskins 128-48 in the league event.
Port Angeles won 11 of the 12 events, sweeping the 200-yard freestyle, 1-meter diving and 100 free.
Winn earned wins in the 200 and 500 free races while Fairchild captured the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly.
Macias, meanwhile, was first in the 100 free and 100 backstroke.
The Riders also had six new West Central District qualifying swims.
Winn’s time of 2:18.62 in the 200 free qualified for the district meet as well as Fairchild’s time of 2:37.96 in the 200 IM.
Macias qualified with a 1:11.71 time in the 100 back while three swimmers all qualified with their 100 free times.
Macias was first in the 100 with a time of 1:00.47 while Jenna Moore qualified with her third-place time of 1:04.80.
Winn, meanwhile, qualified for the 100 free with her lead-off swim in the 400 free relay of 1:04.90.
Port Townsend’s lone winner was the 200 free relay, which won with a time of 2:00.34 with swimmers Mazy Braden, Chloe Aldrich, Olivia Cremeans and Renada Walcome.
Other Roughrider winners were Tarah Erickson in the 50 free, Allison Hodgin in diving, Moore in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 medley relay of Ashlee Reid, Moore, Macias and Erickson, and the 400 free relay of Winn, Erickson, Tori Bock and Macias.
The Riders next swim at home against Klahowya on Thursday starting at 3:30 p.m.
Sequim 94, Bremerton 66
BREMERTON — The Wolves won seven of the 11 events to easily win the Olympic League meet Tuesday.
The Sequim 200-yard freestyle relay and 200 medley relay teams earned West Central District qualifying times.
“Our returning seniors, Rachel Hardy, Rachel Hughes, Gianna Venetti and Autumn Kessinger, swam really well,” coach Susan Craig said.
Venetti had a district qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:25.89.
“The whole team is getting stronger and faster every day, and we look for many more district-qualifying times in the coming weeks,” Craig said.
Sequim next hosts Kingston on Thursday at SARC, and then hosts Lindburgh of Renton on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Girls Soccer Port Angeles 2, Kingston 1
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders improved to 4-1 on the year for their best start in nine years, and they beat Kingston for the first time ever.
The last time Port Angeles had this kind of start was back in 2001, coach Scott Moseley said.
The Riders went ahead 2-0 in the first half of the nonleague game and then hung on to get the win.
The Buccaneers outshot the Riders 14-8.
“They put a lot of pressure on us in the second half but we did the old bend but not break routine,” Moseley said.
Port Angeles quickly got on the scoreboard as Kathryn Moseley, the coach’s daughter, scored in the second minute on an assist by Lauren Corn.
Brittany McBride, a freshman, scored what would prove to be the winning goal at the 16th minute on an assist by Kathryn Moseley.
Kingston scored at the 51st minute but that would be it for the Bucs.
Goalkeeper Kearsten Cox had 10 saves for the Riders.
Kylee Jeffers, a freshman midfielder, was named transition player for the game while senior defender Alexis Corn was picked as the defensive player of the game and junior forward/midfielder Kathryn Moseley was selected as the offensive player of the game.
The Riders next play at North Kitsap in Poulsbo on Thursday night in another nonleague match.
Volleyball Clallam Bay 3, Quilcene 0
CLALLAM BAY — The Bruins improved to 2-2 on the year with the nonleague victory over the Rangers on Tuesday night.
“This was a huge improvement for our young girls,” Clallam Bay coach Kelly Wilson said.
“We are serving it over the net and our passes are going where they are supposed to go.”
Jazzmin Randall had five aces for the Bruins while Jamie Parker did a good job at the net with kills, Wilson said.
Scores of Tuesday night’s three games were not available.
Clallam Bay next hosts Wishkah on Friday night in nonleague action.
