BREMERTON — The Port Angeles boys tennis team got back on the winning track by beating Bremerton 5-2 in Olympic League action Monday.
The Roughriders swept the doubles matches and No. 1 singles player Hayden McCartney was on top of his game, earning a win for Port Angeles and player of the match honors.
“Hayden is our best player and he always gets the top player from the opposing school, so to see him go out and only drop two games was impressive,” coach Brian Gundersen said.
Hayden beat Matt Pohl 6-2, 6-0.
The Riders also lost just two games in No. 1 doubles action as Connor Reid and Sam Beasley defeated Derek Welch and Conner Wales 6-0, 6-2.
Marcus and Michael Konopaski also dropped just two games at No. 2 doubles as they defeated Brycen Kulbeth and Emerson Castro 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 3 doubles, Chase Walsh and Kevin Herzog beat Colton McCoy and Tyler Enloe 6-2, 6-4.
At No. 4 doubles Derek Schumacher and Kapono Rogers defeated Jade Jarvis and Nelson Liu 6-3, 6-0.
Port Angeles next travels to Klahowya on Friday in Olympic League action.
Volleyball
Vashon Island 3, Chimacum 0
VASHON — The powerhouse Pirates overwhelmed the Cowboys in Nisqually League competition Monday.
Vashon won by the scores of 25-18, 25-10, 25-15.
“I think Vashon will be league champs,” Chimacum coach Sally Dankert said.
“And we weren’t on our best form for the night.”
Aubrey Gale had a strong night at the net for the Cowboys with four blocks.
“She did a good job of blocking Vashon’s strong hitting,” Dankert said.
Chimacum, 0-3 in league and 1-4 overall, next plays at home against Seattle Christian on Thursday night.

Sequim JV 2
SEQUIM — The 1B Loggers had their hands full against the 2A JV Wolves on Monday night in nonleague action.
Crescent improved to 4-0 on the year with the scores 24-26, 25-13, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12 in the barn-burner.
The Loggers scored the final three points in Game 5 to win it all.
“It was a very, very tough match,” Crescent coach Alex Baker said.
Setter Racheal Bowen led the Loggers by serving 21 of 22 with three aces, 31 assists, two tips and a kill while Bonny Hazelett was strong at the net with nine kills and a tip, plus 15 of 19 serving with four aces.
Sara Moore also had nine kills plus two tips and she was 14 of 15 at the serving line.
Freshman Jade Blazik served on the varsity for the first time, putting down nine of 10 serves.
“Jade did a good job of coming in during a pressure situation,” Baker said.
Freshman Shannon Williams, a middle blocker, had eight blocks, four kills, a tip and was 12 of 13 serving.
“Shannon did a great job,” Baker said.
Crescent next plays at Port Townsend JV on Thursday night in more nonleague action.
