Stevens Middle School hoops on a roll

PORT ANGELES — Stevens Middle School’s basketball teams swept Chimacum on Monday.

The Stampeders won the eighth-grade game 64-13 and the seventh-grade matchup 65-12.

Anton Kathol led the Stampeders with 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Stevens’ post players scored 50 of the team’s 64 points.

Caleb Flodstrom and Dru Clark each scored in double figures for Stevens in the seventh-grade game. Eleven of the 12 Stampeders scored.

Stevens’ teams next face Sequim at home Thursday.

Led by Kathol’s 17 points and 10 rebounds, Stevens won the eighth-grade meeting against Sequim on Dec. 7. Skyler Cobb also had a double-double in the victory with 11 points and 10 boards. Two other Stampeders scored in double figures: Ethan Flodstrom had 13 and Lucas Jarnagin had 10.

Sequim won the first meeting between the seventh-grade teams 46-27 on Dec. 7. Kamron Noard had six points in the loss.

Stevens’ eighth-graders beat Coupeville 66-17 on Dec. 10. Kathol scored 10 points and Derek Bowechop finished with 10.

The Stampeders swept Blue Heron on Dec. 14. Kathol’s 24 points and 10 rebounds paced the eighth-graders in a 68-19 rout.

Kamron Meadows put up 15 points in the seventh-graders’ 46-23 victory.

On Dec. 17, the Stevens seventh-graders had to come from behind and go to overtime to defeat Forks 45-28. Meadows scored a team-high 11 points, while Clark, Jacob Felton and Adam Watkins added seven apiece.

The Stampeders won the eighth-grade matchup in similar fashion to the other contests during their 7-0 start to the season, routing Forks 65-19. Kathol had 12 points and eight rebounds, Cobb had 10 points and seven rebounds and Jarnagin finished with eight points and eight boards.

Eagles win

CHIMACUM — Chimacum’s eighth-grade team won its first game in six years by defeating Coupeville on Dec. 17.

Bruce Seton put up 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Henry Brebberman had 15 points, which included making three 3-pointers in a row, to go along with 13 assists, and Ashton Hoye contributed 12 points.

Port Angeles hoops tourney

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the 20th annual Martin Luther King Classic on Saturday and Sunday, January 16-17.

The youth basketball tournament, presented by Captain T’s Custom Stuff, has divisions for boys and girls teams from fourth grade through eighth grade.

The tournament has a four-game guarantee and a $250 entry fee.
