Roughrider tourney

PORT ANGELES — The second annual All Class Port Angeles High School Basketball Tournament will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29, at Port Angeles High School in conjunction with the annual Olympic Medical Center Foundation Festival of Trees.

Any classes or combination of classes can enter the tournament.

Players need to be graduates of Port Angeles High School, but don’t have to be varsity letter winners.

Anyone interested in participating should call the Foundation office at 360-417-7144.

Following the tournament, an all class Port Angeles High School reunion party will be held at the Festival of Trees site at Vern Burton Community Center at 7:30 p.m.

The event will be open to the public, and will feature live music.

You don’t have to be a graduate of Port Angeles High School to attend.

“We’ve already had a lot of interest in the tournament,” said event chair Joe Gladfelter.

“This should be a great opportunity for PAHS alumni to not only mingle with their own classmates, but with people from other classes as well.”

“This should be an outstanding event,” said tournament coordinator and former Port Angeles High School basketball coach Lee Sinnes.

“This will be a great opportunity not only for local residents who attended PAHS, but also for people who played and are home for the holidays.”

There will be divisions for both boys and girls.

Two PAHS teams will be honored at the all class reunion, the 1989 girl’s team that finished fifth in the state tournament, and the 1966 boy’s team that finished sixth in the state tourney.

Johnson honored

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles junior volleyball player Emily Johnson was selected as the Roughrider Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 13-18.

In a contest against Sequim, Johnson converted from her normal setter position to outside hitter and led the team in kills.

“She’s been working on consistency versus power,” Port Angeles coach Christine Halberg said.

“Emily is one of our captains and is working on pushing her teammates to high standards.”
