PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles BMX Track is set to host its biggest weekend of the season.
Race for Life, an event that helps raise money for the fights against leukemia and lymphoma, returns to PA’s dirt track with a series of events on Friday and Saturday.
As if that weren’t enough, the state championship races bring things to a close on Sunday.
The festivities get going on Friday with the Race for Life donation concert.
The concert is set for 5-10 p.m. at the track, beginning with an open mic during the first hour followed by feature performances from Complications from a Fall and Headcase.
Race for Life and vendor day will grace the track’s grounds all day Saturday.
There will be a BMX clinic for novice and intermediate riders from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., which costs $10.
That will be followed by Race for Life, an open racing event which requires only a $10 donation for leukemia and lymphoma research.
Sign-ups are open from 3-4 p.m. Racing begins shortly thereafter.
Vendors will also be on hand to showcase merchandise all day. Anyone is welcome to come and sell their own used BMX bikes.
Big finish
The weekend goes out with a bang on Sunday with the state championship races.
Each of the races are open to American Bicycle Association (ABA) members only, with results going toward qualification for the state final at Sea-Tea on Sept. 11-13.
Racers must compete in at least three state championships races in order to reach the final.
It is a double points race open to all skill levels. The cost is $20 per rider.
Sign-ups are from 11 a.m. to noon.
Racing will begin some time after that.
Each of this weekend’s events are sanctioned by the ABA.
New riders are welcome to purchase an ABA membership all weekend.
