WINLOCK — The Forks boys and East Jefferson girls both walked away this weekend with district wrestling championships.
The Spartans were district champs for the fifth straight year. Forks had two weight champions, placed five wrestlers into the championship matches for their weights and 17 out of the 18 Spartans at the district meet in Winlock placed.
Forks finished with 323.5 points, well ahead of second-place Rainier at 294.
The East Jefferson girls, meanwhile had three weight champions, placed five girls into championship matches and had seven girls place. The East Jefferson boys also had three weight champions in their district meet.
Forks’ Dominick Sanchez was first at 106 pounds, winning one match over his teammate Royer Pablo by an 18-3 technical fall and winning the championship with a pin over Blake Bell of Ilwaco.
Abraham Montealegre was first at 113 pounds by winning two straight matches by pin, including a first-round pin over Alex Richards of Adna in the championship match.
Making the championship matches were Braden Camacho-Roldan at 126, Landon Thomas at 138 and Kenneth Daman at 285, with all three finishing second.
Coming in third were Bryan Lucas at 113 pounds, Jon Parker Jr. at 175 pounds and Adrian Sanchez at 150 pounds.
Other wrestlers who placed include Pablo, who finished fourth at 106; , Orlando Camacho, fifth at 120; Samuel Lopez Rivera, sixth at 120; Simeone Jackson-Cruz, sixth at 132; Luis Ornelas, sixth at 157; Avery Greene, seventh at 285; Justin Sandoval, eighth at 126; Daniel Lopez, ninth at 132; Edwin Black, 10th at 165.
The Forks girls wrestlers are expected to do well at district. Their meet is Saturday in Montesano.
East Jefferson girls
TACOMA — East Jefferson’s Gracee Liske won her 125-pound weight division by beating teammate Lavender Douglas in the championship match with a first-round pin. Lenore Geelan was first 140 pounds with two pins, including a first-round victory over Lilly Pulido of Granite Falls in the championship match.
Geelan’s win was important because it earned 22 points and gave the Rivals the district championship with 98 points. Klahowya was right behind in second at 94 points.
Savvy Grimm is also a district champion at 105 pounds as she was the only girl in her weight division.
Douglas was second at 125 pounds, while Grace Ayer was second at 130 pounds, winning two out of three matches, both by pins.
Elsa Rust placed fourth at 115 pounds and Elisabeth Erickson was fourth at 130 pounds.
East Jefferson boys
Winning their weights for the East Jefferson boys were Manaseh Lanphear Ramirez at 150 pounds, Grady White at 157 pounds and Rylen Kruse at 175. The Rivals had seven wrestlers place.
Lanphear Ramirez won with a technical fall in the semifinals and won the district championship with a 10-2 major decision over Bishop Bessler of Klahowya. White went 3-0 on the day, winning with a first-round pin over Reece Decourval of Klahowya in the championship match. Kruse also went 3-0 and won his championship with a 10-5 decision over Rex Hoover of Cascade Christian.
The Rivals sent a total of four wrestlers into the championship matches of their weights. Silas Klontz at 190 pounds finished second. Also placing for East Jefferson were Robben Evans, fourth at 126; Finn Evans, fourth at 150 pounds; and Levi Donahue, fourth at 190 pounds.
East Jefferson finished fourth as a team in a very tough Nisqually District with 119 points. Klahowya won the district title with 245 points.
The Rivals’ Mason Iverson earlier qualified for the Mat Classic at the 1B level as a weight champion at 215 pounds. Since he is a Quilcene student, he now wrestles for Quilcene in a different level in the postseason.
Port Angeles and Sequim boys and girls wrestle in 2A district meets next week.
