SEQUIM — Sequim beat previously undefeated North Kitsap 3-1 in Olympic League soccer action Saturday at Sequim High School.
“It’s huge,” Wolves coach Dave Brasher said. “I think it has been four years since our team beat them.”
The win turns the league title chase into an apparent three-team race between the Sequim (5-2), North Kitsap (7-1) and Kingston (6-1).
The Wolves a shot at the Buccaneers at home Tuesday. Kingston beat Sequim 2-1 last month in the first match of the season.
The Wolves had a pair of quick goals midway through the first half of Saturday’s game to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.
Thomas Winfield hit the crossbar in the 27th minute but teammate Cameron Chase was there to knock it in the net.
Two minutes later, Chase had the ball in the corner and set up Winfield for a goal.
“Cameron and Thomas worked their butts off up front,” Brasher said.
North Kitsap came of strong in the second half, including a breakaway around the 50-minute mark, but Sequim goalkeeper Austin Wagner made to saves to halt the attack.
In the 74th minute, Brian Duran scored for the Vikings on a penalty kick after a slide tackle by Sequim’s Lijah Sanford to cut the Wolves’ lead to 2-1.
Sequim tacked on another goal in stoppage time when Nic Baird scored after North Kitsap’s goalkeeper fell down.
Brasher credited Baird and fellow midfielder Eli Berg for keeping Raul DeLuna, the Vikings’ top scorer, in check.
Sequim 7, Olympic 3
SILVERDALE — A three-goal flurry in the final three minutes of the first half broke open a 1-1 tie and pushed the Wolves to the win Thursday.
“Those three goals right before half finished them off,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said.
Thomas Winfield scored a hat trick and added an assist for the Wolves, and teammate Eli Berg was charitable, doling out four assists and scoring a goal of his own.
Brandon Payne also had a goal and an assist for Sequim (5-2).
Port Angeles 1, Klahowya 0
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders outlasted the Eagles, earning the win on penalty kicks after regulation time ended in a scoreless tie.
Thursday’s win was the first shutout of the season for Port Angeles.
“Goalkeeper Harrison Pearce came up huge in the shootout, saving three of the Klahowya attempts to boost the Riders to the win,” Port Angeles coach Chris Saari said.
“[Our] penalty kick-takers, Jackson May, Tim Schneider and Vincent Ioffrida all scored their penalty kicks with authority.”
Saari praised Pearce as his defensive player of the match, Schneider as his offensive pick and Wei-Yan Fu and Scott Methner for their work in transition.
“The game was a hard-fought, end-to-end match in which both teams created chances during regulation but neither could manage to score,” Saari said.
Port Angeles (4-3) visits Port Townsend (3-4) on Tuesday.

PORT TOWNSEND — The Wolves managed nine hits and eight walks at the plate and took advantage of seven Redskins errors to win big.
Shelby Lott was 2 for 3 with a double, a walk, three RBIs and three runs scored.
McKenzie Bentz went five innings on the mound to get the win for Sequim, striking out four Port Townsend hitters.
Mary Lu Clift knocked a three-run homer for the Wolves (5-0, 7-1).

SILVERDALE — Sarah Steinman struck out 12 and Carly Gouge homered to lead the Riders to the win.
Gouge was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Alicia Howell was 3 for 5 with three runs and an RBI.
In its three wins this week, Port Angeles put up two shutouts and outscored its opponents 41-2.
“It was a good week for our hitting, pitching and defense,” Riders coach Randy Steinman said.

Double winners at Forks meet
FORKS — Forks’ Alan Ensastegui and Crescent’s Ryan Lester were double winners at Forks High School on Thursday.
Ensastegui placed first in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs.
Miguel Morales was the other winner for the Forks boys, taking the shot put with a throw of more than 39 feet.
The Crescent boys had four winners.
Freshman Jacob Bailargeon placed first in the 800-meter run and Martin Waldrip won the 300-meter hurdles.
The Loggers’ 4×400-meter relay team of Quinn’Tin March, Jordan Scott, Waldrip and Bailargeon won with a time of four minutes and 5.1 seconds.
Crescent’s Travis Walker placed first in the javelin with a throw of 160-05.
Lester led the Crescent girls with wins in the 200-meter dash (29.2 seconds) and 100 hurdles (17.8 seconds).
For the Forks girls, Kari Larson won the 800 run and Tristen Williams took the 3,200.
In the field events, Mercedes Flores claimed the shot put for the Spartans, Tristina Smith won the javelin and Erin Weekes placed first in the triple jump.
Girls Golf
Port Angeles 258, Bremerton 317
BREMERTON — Dana Fox was medalist for the fourth straight match with a 4-over-par 40 as the Riders dispatched the Knights.
Four Port Angeles (2-2) golfers carded their best-ever competition scores in the match: Kate Haworth a 50, Chloe Brown a 51, Maddie Boe a 56 and Monica Gasper a 61.
Hannah Almaden finished just one off of her top score, posting a 62.
“[I’m] looking forward to the girls motivating each other to improve even more as the season continues,” Lippold said.
The Riders will be back at Gold Mountain on Thursday to take on Klahowya.
