PREP BASKETBALL: Sequim boys soar past Olympic

SEQUIM — The Sequim boys basketball team got another huge game from Jericho Julmist and big contributions from others in a 69-45 win over Olympic to remain all alone in second place in the Olympic League.

Julmist scored 32 points and did a little of everything with a number of assists on pretty passes, in particular to Solomon Sheppard on the fast break. Sheppard had a pair of thunderous dunks and finished with 14 points.

Julmist and his teammates got off to a fast start, as he scored 11 points in the first quarter while Sequim jumped out to a 17-6 lead.

Julmist got up to 19 points by halftime and Sheppard scored 10 of his points in the second quarter as the Wolves took a 41-19 lead into the break.

Olympic rallied briefly early in the second half with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 41-27. However, Sequim quickly regained the momentum with an 8-0 run of its own, which included a full-court pass from Julmist to Sheppard running down the wing, who then made one of his dunks. For all of his points, it might have been Julmist’s best play of the game. Olympic never seriously threatened again as the Wolves maintained a 20-point lead the rest of the game.

Zeke Schmadeke hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight and Mason Rapelje scored six. Charlie Grider had a pair of blocks.

Sequim (9-2, 13-2) next hosts rival Port Angeles (3-8, 8-10), which is battling for a playoff berth and coming off a huge win over North Kitsap, at 7 p.m. Friday. Sequim beat Port Angeles 56-43 on Jan. 7, though that was a one-possession game early in the fourth quarter. The Wolves may have to win out to maintain second place as Bainbridge is right on their heels at 8-3 in league.
