SEQUIM — Sequim’s seniors came through in their final game in Rick Kaps Gym as the Wolves stayed alive with a 73-61 Class 2A bi-district boys basketball tournament loser-out contest Tuesday.
Senior Keenan Green led the way with 21 points, hitting three second-half 3-pointers, and classmate Lars Wiker added a clutch 3-pointer in the third quarter.
The No. 11-seeded Wolves (11-10) will visit sixth-seed Franklin Pierce (15-6) tonight at 6 p.m. in another loser-out contest. The Cardinals were 78-47 losers against No. 3-seed Renton on Tuesday.
Sequim went up early after forcing the Wolverines into a number of turnovers and easy buckets in transition and also exploiting a height advantage on the offensive glass.
But the Wolves cooled off and Evergreen pounced, taking a 31-30 halftime lead and eventually going up 40-34 early in the third quarter.
“It was a game of runs,” coach Craig Brooks said. “We had a lead in the first half and they came back and were up by one at half. We shot the ball better in the second half led by Keenan Green. He played great and so did a lot of our guys. Four players had double digits. Lars Wiker also had some big shots for us.”
Sequim didn’t make a 3-point basket in the first half, but the shots started to fall from outside in the third quarter.
Mason Rapelje’s trey with a little more than four minutes left started a 13-0 Wolves’ run to seize control of the contest. Sequim’s Solomon Sheppard was big during the run and finished with 16 points, while Charlie Grider added 11 points and 16 rebounds and swatted three shots for Sequim.
Green connected on six of eight free throws in the fourth quarter to keep the Wolverines at bay.

TACOMA — The East Jefferson boys basketball team completed its season with an 84-76 loss in the District 3 1A tournament.

CASTLE ROCK — The Spartans (18-6) knocked out their Pacific League rivals in a loser-out contest Tuesday and will have two chances to make a return trip to the Class 2B state tournament.
Forks will face traditional power Adna tonight at Rochester High School at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to the District Four third-place game Saturday at W.F. West in Chehalis. The loser of the Adna-Forks game will play the loser of tonight’s Toledo-Toutle Lake contest Saturday in a winner-to-state, loser-out game on Saturday, also at W.F. West.
“We rebounded like crazy,” coach David Hurn said. “We got 80 shots off and had 24 offensive rebounds and that led to a few second-chance points for us. We took care of the basketball on offense and forced them to turn it over.”
Keira Johnson led Forks with 19 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals.
“She was able to get in the passing lanes in our press and 1-3-1 zone,” Hurn said.
Bailey Johnson added 17 points and freshman Avery Dilley posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
“Bailey had a really strong game for us driving and penetrating,” Hurn said.
“Avery is in her second year playing basketball and that was the best she’s played. At the start of the season post was a question mark for us but her and Brynn Daniels have worked so hard and improved that they can both play good minutes and its a position of strength.”
