GYMNASTICS: Sequim, Port Angeles gymnasts qualify for district

AUBURN — Sequim and Port Angeles gymnasts advanced to the Class 2A/3A West Central District championship after qualifying at a Sub-District competition Thursday at Auburn Mountainview High School.

The Wolves ended up fourth as a team with 142.2 points. North Kitsap won the meet with 154.35 points. Port Angeles ended up seventh with 100.9 points.

The top two squads automatically qualified all their gymnasts to the district meet. The top eight individuals in each event also will compete at the district meet at Kentlake High School in Kent on Saturday.

Emma Sharp will compete in the all-around for Sequim at the district meet. Sharp finished ninth overall with a total of 30.375 points.

Sharp was eighth on the vault, earning eight points, ninth on the uneven bars (6.55), ninth in the floor exercise (8.0) and 14th on the balance beam (7.7).

Port Angeles’ Aiesha LaTourette earned the highest individual event finish for area gymnasts, taking third in the vault with an 8.175.

She will compete in two other events at districts, the floor exercise (8.4) and the balance beam (7.6).

Port Angeles’ Maizie Tucker tied for eighth on the vault with a score of 7.8.

Sequim’s Gracie Sharp qualified in three events at the district meet.

Sharp tied for seventh on the balance beam with an 8.0, earned a 7.5 in the vault and a 5.8 in the uneven bars.

Kori Miller of Sequim also will compete in three events at districts.

Miller earned a 7.4 in the vault, a 6.2 on the uneven bars and a 7.6 on the balance beam.

The Wolves’ Lesae Pfeffer advanced on the balance beam with a score of 7.55 and will also compete at district in the floor exercise.

Sequim’s Danica Pierson qualified in the uneven bars with a score of 5.85.
