GIRLS BASKETBALL: Quilcene routs Crescent 54-26

QUILCENE — Megan Weller led the Quilcene girls basketball team to a 54-26 home win over Crescent.

Weller, a junior, led all scorers with 18 points and had six rebounds and three steals.

Sammy Rae racked up another double-double for the Rangers with 12 points, 18 rebounds and three assists.

Allison Jones added eight points and three steals for Quilcene; Katie Love had three points and four rebounds; Taylor Burnston contributed two points, five boards and three steals; and Katlyn Hitt scored one point and pulled down a pair of rebounds.

“Freshmen Hannah Williams and Alexis Grey also made strong contributions on both ends of the court during the scrappy, high-tempo game,” Quilcene coach Briana Weller said of Monday’s game.

The Rangers pushed the tempo with a pressing defense.

“Our press was working well and we were able to take advantage of several fast break opportunities,” Briana Weller said.

“The Loggers showed a lot of hustle and heart. They played tough the entire game and never took the pressure off us. It’s a credit to their players and coach.”

Quilcene (1-0, 8-2) next travels to Evergreen Lutheran for a SeaTac League matchup Tuesday, January 6.

Crescent is off until its road game at third-ranked Neah Bay on Friday, Jan. 9.
