Story People to present Tales from the Hedgerows

SEQUIM — William Kennedy Hornyak will present “Tales from the Hedgerows” at 7 p.m. Friday.

The show, sponsored by the Story People of Clallam County, will be at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave.

Tickets, which are $20 per person, are available by calling the box office at 360-683-7326 or online at www.olympictheatrearts.org.

Hornyak brings the spirit of a late-night Irish hedgerow gathering to life with stories, songs, poems and toasts. His stories honor those who educated and inspired the minds and hearts of the people during the brutally repressive era of the Penal Codes. During that period, teaching of Irish language, history, music, tradition and worship was outlawed by the British Crown, and men and women, known as hedgerow teachers, braved fines and imprisonment to keep the flame of learning alive in the shelter of hedgerows, barns and botheys.

The program is recommended for audiences 14 and older.
