Social Justice Week begins with lecture today

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with Social Justice Week, beginning with a Studium Generale presentation by the college’s Upward Bound director, Nitasha Lewis, today.

“The Price of Success is My Smile,” will be online at 12:30 p.m. The free lecture can be accessed via Zoom at www.pencol-edu.zoom.us/j/82278252780. The meeting ID is 822 7825 2780.

Lewis will reflect on an important dialogue between Nikki Giovanni and James Baldwin, organizers said.

The session will include a lecture and discussion on code-switching.

Lewis earned an associate in Applied Science/Addiction Studies and a bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Management at Peninsula College. Additionally, she received her master’s degree from Western Governors University in Kent in Management and Leadership.

“Her passions are advocating for social/economic liberation and education,” organizers said.

“As a first-generation student, she loves giving back and supporting students in their academic pursuits.”
