SEQUIM — A hot start helped the Sequim Wolves baseball team wrap up a district playoff berth with an 8-4 victory over the Bremerton Knights.
Sequim put five runs on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the first inning and added three more in the fifth.
Daniel Harker was 1 for 3 with two runs and four RBIs for the Wolves, while teammate Evan Hurn was 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI.
Dusty Bates, Ian Dennis and Tanner Rhodefer all added RBIs for Sequim in Monday’s game.
Sequim’s Nick Johnston pitched well on the mound, not allowing a run in his 6 2/3 innings, while giving up just three hits and striking out nine while walking six.
Bremerton attempted a two-out rally in the seventh inning, scoring four runs on relief pitcher Zach Rigg before Sequim ended the threat and the game.
The win completed the Wolves’ regular season schedule.
Sequim must now wait for the last Olympic League contests to shake out in order to learn whether the team will be the Olympic League’s second, third or fourth seed to the Class 2A West Central District tournament.
If the Wolves are the No. 2 seed, they will play at Franklin Pierce High School in Lakewood at 2:30 p.m. next Wednesday.
If they are the No. 3, they play at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton at 4 p.m. Tuesday, and if they are the No. 4 they will play at Franklin Pierce at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

PORT TOWNSEND — The Redskins completed the season sweep of the Roughriders with a comeback victory Monday.
Port Townsend rallied from a 7-0 second inning deficit to topple Port Angeles, the second time the Redskins beat the Riders in fewer than two weeks.
Jacob King was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs for Port Townsend, while Jeff Seton had a homer and two RBIs and Cody Russell doubled and drove in three runs.
James Delagarza was 2 for 3 with a walk and three runs for the Redskins.
Sean Dwyer relieved Russell on the mound in the fourth inning.
He allowed just one Port Angeles run on four hits and two walks in four innings of work to pick up the win.
Port Angeles starter Ryan Mudd was chased after giving up eight runs, five of them earned, in three innings on the hill.
Travis Paynter had a shaky outing in relief for the Riders, allowing five runs, all earned, on five hits and four walks to pick up the loss.
Jordan Shepherd was 1 for 3 at bat with a double two runs and three RBIs for Port Angeles.
He also struck out three batters in his lone inning of work in the sixth.
Jace Bohman was 1 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs for the Riders (6-9, 6-10), while Mudd was 1 for 3 with a run and two RBIs.
Neither team will play in the postseason.
Port Townsend (2-13, 4-14) wraps its season today at Bremerton.

PORT TOWNSEND — The Roughriders routed the Redskins to pull within a win of clinching at least a share of the Olympic League title.
[We] hit the ball hard with a lot of extra-base hits,” Port Angeles coach Randy Steinman said after Monday’s game.
“Carly Gouge hit her first-ever over-the-fence home run and Ashlee Reid hit a mammoth home run into the woods over the left-field fence.”
Gouge ended up 3 for 5 with a double, the homer, three runs and three RBIs.
Reed was 1 for 3 with the previously mentioned home run, a three-run blast.
Sarah Steinman was 3 for 5 with two runs and three RBIs and Karley Bowen was 1 for 2 with a run and an RBI for the Riders.
Steinman allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six batters in her three innings pitched to earn the win.
Cara Cristion allowed one hit and struck out two Port Townsend batters to close out the game.
Malia Henderson was 3 for 3 with an RBI and Baili Shaw was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Redskins.
Port Townsend will wrap its season with a game at Olympic on Thursday.
The Olympic League championship will likely be on the line when the Riders (13-1, 13-3) host second-place Sequim (13-2, 15-3) at Dry Creek Elementary School at 4 p.m. Thursday.
The Riders beat the Wolves 5-0 last month.

SEQUIM — Makayla Bentz tossed a complete-game one-hit shutout to lead the Wolves to a win over the Knights.
Bentz, a senior playing her last home game, was backed up by a pair of other seniors.
Alexas Besand was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double three runs and three RBIs, and Melissa Lewis was 3 for 3 with three RBIs.
McKenzie Bentz added a two-run double for Sequim.
The Wolves (13-2, 15-3) visit Port Angeles (13-1, 13-3) on Thursday.

PORT ANGELES — Alex Atwell’s one-over-par 73 at Peninsula Golf Club helped lead the Roughriders to a win against rival Sequim.
“It was a quality win against a well-coached quality opponent,” Port Angeles coach Mark Mitrovich said of Monday’s match.
“Sequim is always good.”
Atwell’s low round earned him match medalist honors for the sixth time in Port Angeles seven Olympic League matches and helped cover a higher-than-usual 90 by teammate Micah Needham.
Atwell had two birdies and 13 pars in his round with just three bogeys.
“He’s two-tenths of a stroke away from leading the Olympic League and winning MVP,” Mitrovich said.
Atwell trails Klahowya’s Aaron Holiday, 38.3 to 38.5, for the lowest individual nine-hole scoring average and the league MVP award.
Alex Brown was second for the Riders with an 81, followed by rounds of 84 from Mason Jackson and Austin Peterson.
“Brown had a birdie and eight pars and Peterson continues to play really steady for us with eight pars,” Mitrovich said.
Avery Koehler shot a 95 to round out the Port Angeles efforts.
The Wolves were led by rounds of 83 from sophomore Jack Shea and senior Anthony Pinza and Travis Priest. Alex McCracken shot 84 and Jesse Francis a 90.
Henry Markham notched a 97 for the Wolves.
The top five individual scores count to produce the final team total.
“[We] ran into a very tough opponent yesterday against Port Angeles,” Sequim coach Bill Shea said.
“It was a close match and both teams played well.”
With the win, the Riders will finish second in the Olympic League and the Wolves will finish third.
Sequim will wrap its league season with a match against Kingston at White Horse Golf Club today.
Port Angeles’ Atwell, Brown, Jackson and Needham and Sequim’s Shea and Pinza will compete as individuals in the annual Egbers Memorial at Skagit Golf and Country Club in Burlington on Friday.

BREMERTON — The Roughriders and Eagles played to a scoreless draw through regulation and two overtime periods before Port Angeles converted on penalty kicks to pick up the win.
In the shootout, Port Angeles made all three of its penalty kick attempts (from Jackson May, Tim Schneider and Vincent Ioffrida) ,while Klahowya had one shot hit the crossbar, made one shot, had one shot saved by Riders goalkeeper Harrison Pearce and then hit the post on their fourth and final shot.
It was the second shutout of the season for Pearce, both of which came against the Eagles in shootout victories.
Saari singled out Pearce and Jeff Glatz for their work on defense and Wei-Yan Fu for his efforts in transition.
With the shootout win and Bremerton’s loss to Kingston, the Riders clinched the fifth spot in the Olympic League seeding tournament.
Port Angeles will face fourth-place Klahowya in a loser-out contest at Silverdale Stadium at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Riders (7-8, 19 points) will close the regular season hosting Bremerton for a senior night game at Civic Field at 6:45 p.m. tonight.

SEQUIM — Seniors Sivestor Moroles, Bailey Collins and Saul Nava scored their first goals of the season in the Wolves’ senior night blowout of the winless Trojans on Monday.
Sequim (13-2, 39 points) remains tied with Kingston and North Kitsap for the league title.
“We play North Kitsap [today], so if we win we get first place and get to host a league seeding game on Monday, and if we lose we get third place and have to go on the road,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said.
“We beat them here the first time, so it’s going to be a tough one; they’ll be pumped up and ready for us.”
