Tranco now 12-0

PORT ANGELES — Tranco beat Boulevard last week 11-7 and Paint and Carpet Barn 11-0 in 12U softball action to push its record to 12-0. Grace Roening struck out six and allowed just two walks in three innings.

Tranco built up a lead of 8-1 by the end of three innings against Boulevard. Zoe Smithson had a walk, a hit and a run scored, while Teagan Clark had two walks, while Roening had a double and a triple.

Boulevard got some momentum with walks from Jenna McGoff, Estrella Wasinkari and Jada Woods and singles from Jocy Kazcauskas and Sarah Cameron, scoring six runs.

Tranco responded with three more runs in the fourth innings. Smithson hit a double, Teagan Clark walked and Roening drove them both in with a single. Teanna Clark then had a run-scoring single, driving home Roening.

Defensively Tranco players had to adjust to playing some new positions; however, they communicated well, practiced being flexible, and encouraged each other to be successful.

Jenna McGoff pitched 3 innings with a strikeout.

Tranco played one of its most solid games fundamentally and mentally against Paint and Carpet Barn. Tranco made a few errors on the field but every time there was support for that player and the player came back the very next play making a huge play for an out.

Roening started out the game on fire with three strikeouts in the first inning. Two Paint and Carpet Barn batters walked in the second, but catcher Smithson threw them both out at second on steal attempts. Roening struck out three more batters in the third inning.

Teagan Clark went in to pitch the fourth with Grace playing short. Paint and Carpet Barn’s first batter, Destiny Smith, got on by error and made it to third from a hard hit to first by Katelyn Glass. However, Maryrose Halberg came up with a spectacular snag at first for Tranco, getting Glass out.

Offensively, Smithson, Roening and Teagan Clark scored eight of Tranco’s 11 runs. Smithson had a single and double. Roening hit a single and a three-RBI home run. Tranco’s other runs were scored by Tatum Moses, Halberg and Holly Tietjen. Tranco’s entire lineup was putting their bat on the ball and being aggressive at the plate.

Jaylynn Hofer, Ciara Cargo and Glass made multiple plays in the field at second, short and first for Paint and Carpet Barn. Smith pitched the entire game for Paint with four strikeouts.
