YOUTH SPORTS ROUNDUP: Area baseball and softball recaps

Tranco shuts out Paint and Carpet Barn

PORT ANGELES — Tranco pitchers Grace Roening and Teagan Clark combined to shut down and shut out Paint and Carpet Barn 7-0 in a 16U softball game Tuesday.

Roening struck out seven and walked one in four innings in the circle. Coach Christine Grunch Halberg said she pitched a strong and accurate game.

Clark totaled four strikeouts in two innings pitched.

On Tuesday, Tranco beat Paint and Carpet Barn 7-0 to go to 3-0 on the season.

Lily Halberg singled and scored twice with one RBI. Teagen Clark hit a two-run home run and walked and singled.

Roening had an RBI single and Tatum Moses singled and scored on a sacrifice by Kate Snook.

Teanna Clark singled and walked twice, and scored on a Halberg RBI single.

Destiny Smith struck out nine in the first four innings for Paint and Carpet.

Jaylyn Hofer and Emilee Reid each singled and Katelynn Glass doubled for the Barners.

Grunch Halberg said defensive plays from Smithson, Roening and Teagan Clark kept them from scoring.

Co-op tops Swain’s

SEQUIM — Sequim Co-op evened its record at 1-1 with a 15-4 win over Swain’s in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth action Tuesday.

Austin Newton, Ty Coon and Brandon Barnett combined for a one hitter and got plenty of help from the defense, including two double plays.

Co-op’s bats pounded out 11 hits and 13 RBI.

Silas Thomas and Noah Turner led the way with two hits apiece.

Kiwanis on top

PORT ANGELES — Kiwanis earned its third straight 16U softball win with a 10-4 triumph over ILWU in six innings.

Elizabeth Gross pitched a complete game to pick up the win in her first outing as a pitcher.

Kiwanis’ Anna Menkal notched an RBI single in the top of the second, scoring Anna Brandt who reached on an earlier single. Chava Haller and Menkal also scored in the three-run inning.

A six-hit, six-run third inning boosted Kiwanis.

Madison Belbin, Jada Cargo Acosta and Brandt all singled to load the bases.

Belbin came home on a ground out by Haller, and Menkal and Gross followed with RBI singles.

Amaris Martinez drew a bases-loaded walk and Belbin followed with an RBI on an infield single.

ILWU scored three in the bottom of the third when Taylor Tolliver, who reached base on a single, was singled home by Kylee Hutton.

Maddy Massman and Mikayla Ramey added RBI singles for ILWU.

Kiwanis clubs KONP

PORT ANGELES —Kiwanis handed KONP its first loss, 11-8 in a 16U softball contest cut short due to the league’s time limit in the fifth inning.

Amaris Martinez started off Kiwanis’ four-run bottom of the first inning by plating Nevaeh Selvidge with an RBI single. Martinez later scored on a base hit by Jada Cargo Acosta.

Kiwanis added four more runs in the bottom of the second, all with two outs.

Selvidge, Martinez and Elizabeth Gross all walked and were driven home by a Cargo Acosta inside-the-park grand slam past the left fielder.

Jeanette Cary-Dewater hit a two-run single for KONP and later scored on a wild pitch to cut Kiwanis’ lead to 8-7.

Kiwanis’ Anna Menkal followed by singling, stealing second base and scoring on a wild pitch. Her teammate Aiesha Morris added a triple and scored on a ground out.

Cargo Acosta earned the win in the circle for Kiwanis.
