Paint and Carpet earns three wins
PORT ANGELES — Paint and Carpet Barn won three 12U softball games last week.
Paint and Carpet defeated PA Power 13-9 and Boulevard Wellness Center 16-6 on Saturday and Jim’s Pharmacy 7-4 on Wednesday.
In Saturday’s first game, Paint and Carpet was led by Brooklyn Alton, who went 4 for 4 at the plate
Jada Cargo tripled and a homered and Emilee Reid added a triple.
Maddie Massman lead P.A Power with two hits and two runs. Anna Gentry and Elizabeth Groff also had hits for PA Power.
Paint and Carpet scored 16 runs on 10 hits in the afternoon game.
Brooklynn Alton hit a first-pitch home run and Cargo and Reid each doubled.
Destiny Smith earned the win as Paint and Carpet Barn improved 9-2 record this season.
Boulevard Wellness Center scored six runs on seven hits. Ella Holland was 3 for 3 and scored a run, and Khloe Stannard went 2 for 3 with one run.
In Wednesday’s game, Paint and Carpet had 14 hits and committed two errors.
Cargo went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple. Reid added a double.
Smith pitched and earned the win.
Jim’s Pharmacy had eight hits and four errors. Katrina Gregory, Abbie Keller and Taylor Worthington combined to collect five of Jim’s hits.
Elks belts Local 155
PORT ANGELES — Elks dispatched Local 155 by a score of 12-2 in Cal Ripken Baseball on Friday evening.
Elks’ Connor Bear continued his hot hitting with a 2 for 3 performance at the plate, finishing the week with an impressive .625 average and two triples.
Seth Woods was 2 for 2 and Jaeden Platt and Damon Gundersen each hit doubles in the contest.
Gundersen also started a nice 4-6-3 double play for Elks on defense.
Local 155 pitcher Eli Floodstrom dominated early, beginning the game by striking out the first three batters he faced.
Nine-year-old catcher Myles Bowechop contributed by cutting down an Elks runner on a steal attempt with a strong throw to second base.
Isaiah Martinez hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to lead Local 155’s offense.
Tranco powers to win
PORT ANGELES — Grace Roening and Emi Halberg went 3 for 3 to lead Tranco over PA Power 13-5 in 12U majors softball play.
Roening drove in four runs and scored twice in Saturday’s game, while Halberg had three singles and scored three runs.
Peyton Hefton and Camille Stensgard each contributed two hits for Tranco, while Zoe Smithson, Lily Halberg and Gracie Townsend had one hit apiece.
“Both Gracie and Zoe did a great job putting down a bunt for a hit,” Tranco coach Christine Halberg said.
Hefton pitched two innings and struck out four batters, and Roening fanned five in two innings.
For PA Power, Lizzy Groff pitched four innings and earned two strikeouts. Lindsey Groff, Lilly and Ryleigh Scheid and Mady Massman each scored one run from walks.
Local 155 rallies
PORT ANGELES — Local 155 battled back to beat Eagles 15-13 in Cal Ripken baseball action.
The two teams combined for 28 runs and 31 hits, including 12 extra base hits, in Monday’s game.
With the score tied at 11 in the fourth inning, Local’s Isaiah Martinez tripled to bring home Thor Olsen.
Martinez racked up three RBIs on two hits in the game.
Local opened up a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Colby Groves singled and stole second base, then came home on a double by Olsen. A stolen base then moved Graves from first to second.
Olsen doubled, scoring Groves, and Martinez doubled home two more runs.
Eagles responded with a 10-run inning of its own.
Eagles scored on a two-run double by Garritt McNally, an RBI single by Nathaniel Thompson, a two-run double by Easton Marrett, an RBI single by Tyler Hunter, an RBI single by Trenton Indelicato, a two-run triple by Tanner Price, and a sacrifice fly by McNally.
Local added three runs in the second inning and five in the third to retake the lead 11-10.
Eagles tied the game at 11-11 with a run in the bottom of the third.
After taking the lead, Local 155 piled on two more runs in the top of the sixth.
Two runs in the bottom of the sixth helped Eagles close the deficit to 15-13. An RBI single by Tylor Collins and an RBI single by Tyler gave the Eagles life, but Groves ended the threat with a strikeout.
Avalanche take third
YAKIMA — Area sixth-grade girls basketball team the Olympic Avalanche ended its season with a third-place finish at the 29th annual Best in the West tournament earlier this month.
The Avalanche went 3-2 at the tournament, with both losses coming to the Locomotives, one of the top club teams in Spokane.
“We are considered by the Washington State Middle Championships body a ‘single school’ team,” Avalanche head coach Joe Marvelle said.
“To finish in the top four at the Best in the West is a big accomplishment. Considering we were the only ‘single school’ team in the entire BIW sixth-grade girls bracket is even more impressive.
“These girls can compete with any club team in the Pacific Northwest.”
Emilia Long led the Avalanche with 14 points in their 45-21 win over Triple Threat in the third-place game.
In Olympic’s 48-24 quarterfinal win over USA Basketball of Kent, Myra Walker pulled down 16 rebounds.
In 10 tournaments this season, the Avalanche made the finals six times and won four championships. They finished with a 35-11 overall record.
The Avalanche next play July 10 against HD Dynamic of Yakima in Seattle at Key Arena.
