WOMEN'S SOCCER: Peninsula College's bid for three-peat alive after quarterfinal win over Treasure Valley

PORT ANGELES — A chance at an NWAC championship three-peat remains alive for the Peninsula College women’s soccer team after booking passage to its fourth straight semifinals appearance in a 1-0 victory over Treasure Valley 1-0 Sunday at Wally Sigmar Field.

The lone goal came on a free kick in the 74th minute.

A hustle play from Pirates midfielder Taylor Berg earned a foul and a free kick on the right side of the field about 30 yards from the Chukars’ goal.

Freshman forward Lexi Krieger stepped forward to take the free kick, sending the ball on a curving path from right to left toward the right post.

The ball bounced low inside the Treasure Valley box, glancing off the hands of Chukars’ goalkeeper Tessa Pitzer and onto the foot of another Peninsula freshman, Kai Mahuka, who sent the ball into the net.

The Pirates (16-1-2) will face South Region champion Lane (13-2-2) in the semifinals at Starfire Sports Complex at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The winner will face the winner of the other semifinal between Spokane and Everett in the NWAC championship game at 3 p.m. Sunday.
