TRACK AND FIELD: Lovgren leads Port Angeles girls to win at Forks Lions Club Invitational

FORKS — Elyse Lovgren won four events to lead the Port Angeles girls to victory at the Forks Lions Club Invitational at Forks High School.

Lovgren paced the six-school track and field meet in the 100-meter dash (13.61 seconds), the 200 (28.39 seconds), the long jump (15 feet, 5 inches) and the triple jump (33-07.5), as the Roughriders racked up 178 points, far ahead of second-place Ketchikan (Alaska), which had 96 points.

Clallam Bay was third at Saturday’s meet with 88 points, Forks was fourth with 72, Neah Bay came in fifth with 42 points and Crescent tallied 36 points.

In the boys competition, Port Angeles’ 109.83 points were second to Ketchikan’s 132.33.

Riders freshman distance runner Gracie Long joined Lovgren in the winner’s circle by taking the girls 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:19.12.

Port Angeles also placed first in the 4×100- and 4×200-meter relays.

Madison St. George, Cami Raber, Alexis Burwell and Brittani Delgardno teamed to win the 4×100 with a time of 55.91 seconds. Ciara Gentry, Lainnie Lyamba, Haili Farnum and St. George won the 4×200 with a 1:57.44.

The Clallam Bay girls didn’t have any champions, but they did rack up a bunch of top-six scoring finishes, highlighted by a pair of runner-up showings from Molly McCoy.

She took second in the 300-meter hurdles and tied for second with Port Angeles’ Zoe Owens in the long jump.

The Bruins also took second in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays

Tristina Smith was the lone winner for Forks, the host team. She out-threw the field in the javelin with a distance of 94-11, which ranks second on the North Olympic Peninsula this season.

Neah Bay had two winners. Faye Chartraw took first in the girls shot put (33-03) and Selena Akin won the discus (94-01).

Ryan Lester was part of 28 of the Crescent girls’ 36 points, including wins in the 100 hurdles (18.54 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (52.91 seconds).

Boys results

The Port Angeles boys had five first-place showings Saturday.

Peter Butler won the 1,600 for the second time in three days with a time of 4:42.88. He also won the event at Thursday’s Olympic League meet in Port Angeles.

Hunter Dempsey took first in the 3,200 for the Riders with a time of 12:00.77.

Matt Robbins won the shot put (41-06), Kody Kuch won the javelin (123-10) and Lambros Rogers tied for first in the high jump (5-06).

The Crescent boys placed third with 77 points, followed by Forks with 76.5, Neah Bay with 54.33 and Clallam Bay with 39 points.

Feshman Paul Frantz won twice for the Loggers. He ran a Peninsula-best 53.65 seconds to win the boys 400, and 2:06.83 to win the 800.

Martin Waldrip also won for Crescent with a distance of 36-02 in the triple jump.

Miguel Morales won the discus for Forks with a distance of 125-03. He also placed second to Robbins in the shot put.

For the Neah Bay boys, Cameron Buzzell finished third in the 100 and second in the 200.

Isaac Jay Brunk was the runner-up in the 3,200 for the Red Devils, Chris Martinez took second in the long jump and Auston Jimmicum ran to third-place finishes in the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles.

Eighth-grader Clatyon Willis had a big day for Clallam Bay. He won the long jump (19-01) and placed third in the high jump, fourth in the 100 and fourth in the 400.
