FORKS — Port Angeles pulled back its top players in the second half while beating an undermanned Forks 8-0 in a nonleague girls soccer game Tuesday.
The Roughriders led 7-0 at halftime and coach Scott Moseley did all he could not to pile it on with just a goal in the second half in the first game for both teams.
“Forks didn’t have quite a full team,” Moseley said.
Port Angeles scored two goals in the first two minutes and had three goals only four minutes into the game.
Kathryn Moseley picked up where she left off last year with two goals while teammate Shayla Bohman also scored two goals.
Lauren Corn, Brittany McBride, Kaitlin Boston and Kylee Jeffers also scored goals.
Earning assists were Bohman, Paxton Rodocker and Corn.
The Riders had 16 shots on goal.
“It was one of those games where we took the air out of the ball,” Moseley said.
The Port Angeles JV team, meanwhile, beat Sequim 3-1 at Port Angeles on Tuesday.
The Riders next travel to Bremerton for a nonleague game today.
Volleyball Crescent 5-1 in jamboree
JOYCE — The Loggers had mostly an easy time in their own early season jamboree, winning five games and losing just one.
They swept Clallam Bay (25-12, 25-9) and Crescent JV (2-0, scores not available) but split with fellow North Olympic League powerhouse Neah Bay *25-19, 25-27).
“We had some great play in the jamboree, and we had only seven of our 10 varsity members playing,” Crescent coach Alex Baker said.
The other three varsity members played on the Crescent JV to fill up that team.
“We’re looking forward to the season,” Baker said. “We came out on fire against Clallam Bay.”
The Loggers tired out a little bit later because they had only one substitute.
Crescent was deadly on serves, serving 98 percent — missing just one serve — against Clallam Bay and Neah Bay.
“That’s absolutely outstanding,” Baker said.
Junior setter Rachel Bowen was a perfect 32-of-32 in serves (with two aces) and she had 30 assists and a tip.
Sophomore Catherine Youngman also was perfect in serves (20-of-20) and had four aces and four kills.
Stepping up in the middle was Mikela Williams, who was 17-of-19 in serves with 13 kills and four blocks.
The Loggers open the season for real at home against Clallam Bay on Saturday.
The match starts at 11 a.m.
Forks 3, Port Angeles 1
PORT ANGELES — The Spartans opened up the season with a 23-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-10 nonleague win over the Roughriders on Tuesday.
Jillian Raben dished out 17 assists to help lead 1A Forks to an upset victory against its 2A counterparts.
Raven McCann added eight kills while Whitney Fairbanks had five kills and Casey Williams three.
Forks heads to Chimacum on Thursday for another nonleague match.
