POULSBO — Lauren Curtis scattered six hits in six innings while Maddy Hinrichs and Mariah Frazier both blasted two-run homers each as Port Angeles opened its Olympic League softball season on a high note.
The Roughriders earned 13 hits as they ripped the North Kitsap Vikings 10-1 on Monday.
Curtis (1-0) striked out four batters and gave out just one walk as Sarah Steinman relieved Curtis in the seventh inning to help secure the win.
Steinman fanned one, walked one and allowed just one hit.
The Riders led 1-0 after one inning and 5-0 after three and never looked back.
Hinrichs had two hits in the game, one her long homer that scored two runs. She also scored twice.
Frazier, meanwhile, swatted a homer out of the park for two runs with her only hit.
Hannah Wahto had two hits for the Riders and scored twice to go with her two RBIs from the sixth-inning homer.
Emily Drake slugged out two hits, one an RBI-double. She also scored twice and walked once.
Steinman earned two hits, had an RBI and scored once.
Kearsten Cox had a hit and two RBI-sacrifice flies.
Raelyn Lucas had a hit, a walk and scored once.
The Riders (1-0) next travel to Port Townsend today in Olympic League action.

KINGSTON — The strong Class 2A Buccaneers were held to seven hits by the 1B Rangers in nonleague action Monday.
Sammy Rae (0-1) went the distance on the mound, six innings, giving up just three earned runs while striking out eight and walking five.
The Rangers had six hits of their own with Sophie Knutzen going 2 for 4 with a double and a stolen base and Patrice Beringer batting 2 for 3.
Rae, meanwhile, hit a double, scored a run and stole a base while Kelsy Hughes and Andrea Perez had two stolen bases each.

PORT TOWNSEND — Oh, the Class 1A Redskins played the strong 2A Buccaneers close in the opening Olympic League game for both teams.
Kingston scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning.
Port Townsend had only two hits but made the most of them with the two runs and just one error.
“It was a great baseball game,” Port Townsend coach Pat Kelly said.
Junior Kyle Kelly threw a complete game, giving up just three earned runs.
The Redskins took advantage of Kingston mistakes and were aggressive on the base paths while Kingston had key hits at crucial points of the game, Pat Kelly said.
Kingston took over the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth inning while an RBI-single by Kyle Kelly in the bottom half of the sixth scored Jacob King to ti it up.
The Redskins next ill host Port Angeles today.

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders earned the top five places to blow out the Eagles in a nine-hole Olympic League match Monday at Peninsula Golf Club.
Senior Jordan Negus, last year’s ace, picked up where he left off by taking medalist honors with 2-over 38 with seven pars and only two bogeys.
“It was good to finally play,” Port Angeles coach Mark Mitrovich said.
“It was a pretty nice day with no rain and no wind. It was spring-like.”
Junior Jarrett Payton was a stroke behind Negus with a 39 with two birdies and two pars while junior Joe Barnes and senior Bryan Schlinkmann were both close behind with 41 each as Barnes made four pars and five birdies.
Freshman Alex Atwell finished out the top five with a 46, shooting a birdie and six bogeys.
“There was a lot of good play for the Riders,” Mitrovich said.
“We started out strong but we need a little more consistency. We have a little more depth this year than we had last year.”
Logan Schnuit was Klahowya’s top golfer with a 47.
The Riders are tied for first place in league with Kingston at 1-0 each.
Port Angeles next will play against North Kitsap at White Horse Golf Club next Tuesday, and then will play at Port Townsend at Port Townsend Golf Club on March 28.
Girls Golf
Port Angeles defeats Klahowya
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders improved to 1-1 in the Olympic League after the nine-hole match Monday at Peninsula Golf Club.
Sally Fletcher of Klahowya was match medalist with a score of 51 while Port Angeles sophomore Dana Fox led the Roughriders with a score of 53, followed closely by teammate and fellow sophomore Sydney Rauch, who shot a 54.
Senior captain Kelly Winn shot a 64 while sophomores Brittany McBride and Lanna Hammer both shot 69 each for a team total of 309.
Girls Tennis
Port Angeles 5, Bremerton 2
BREMERTON — The Roughriders got their season off to a good start with the Olympic League win on Monday.
“We’ve been practicing for three weeks, so the girls were excited to play somebody else,” coach Brian Gundersen said.
“There were some early nerves, but once the girls settled down, they played much better.”
Gundersen singled out Callie Peet as the player of the match.
“Callie came out aggressively and I thought she looked like she was in mid-season form,” Gundersen said.
The Riders next travel to Klahowya on Friday.
