PREP WRESTLING: Port Angeles takes double dual over Port Townsend, Sequim

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Angeles defeated Sequim and Port Townsend in an Olympic League double dual at Port Townsend High School.

The wins bring the Roughriders’ league record to 5-0 (9-0 overall) heading into tonight’s pivotal showdown with Olympic that will likely go a long way towards determining the Olympic League’s regular season champion.

Port Angeles beat Sequim 66-12 and the five-man Port Townsend squad 82-0.

In Tuesday’s other match, the Wolves defeated the Redhawks 63-10.

Winning by pin for Port Angeles over Sequim were Cody Anderson (113 pounds), Nick Rush (120), Gavin Crain (132), , Brandyn Fouts (160), Richard Hillstrom (170), Evan Gallacci (182), Kyle La Fritz (220) and Roberto Coronel (285).

Morgan Mower won his 126-pound match by major decision for the Riders, as did Sam Burton at 145 pounds, while 138-pounder Branden Currie won a decision and 192-pounder Matt Robbins won by forfeit.

Against Port Townsend, Mower, Crain, Gallacci and La Fritz again pinned their opponents, while Ben Basden won the 120-pound match by major decision.

Port Angeles had nine other winners by forfeit.

Tonight’s match against the Trojans is Bud Dire Memorial Alumni Night. The Riders will honor their program’s founder along with all former Port Angeles wrestlers who are in attendance.

“We want to extend an invitation to all alumni to join us,” Riders coach Erik Gonzalez said.

Sequim took two matches against the Riders.

Jamie Schroepfer defeated Nate Harrellson by pin and Kevyn Ward won by forfeit.

The Wolves had three head-to-head winners against the Redhawks.

Hunter Davison pinned Tanner Minnihan in the 182-pound match and Michael Latimer did likewise to Jacob Massit in the 220-pound match.

In the 132-pound tilt, Sequim’s Hayden Gresli won an 11-10 decision over Jackson Schlott.

Port Townsend had two winners over the Wolves.

Shae Shoop pinned Jillian Blouin-Hitchison at 120 pounds, while Peter Glitsch won a major decision against Alma Mendoza at 126 pounds.

The Wolves and Redhawks also had a number of girls matches.

Port Townsend’s Charity Jesionowski beat Mendoza for the second time in less than a week with a 6-4 decision in the 130-pound showdown. The two also faced off at the Kelso girls tournament last Saturday.

Jesionowski also pinned Aylee Bennett.

Chloe Rogers won twice for the Redhawks, pinning Andrea Kienholtz and taking a major decision over Brittany Jensen 13-3.

Sequim’s Sophia Cornell pinned Ally Bradley in the 110-pound match. Kiara Pierson also won by pin over Bradley.

Port Townsend hosts North Kitsap today, while Sequim is at Bremerton.
