QUILCENE — Quilcene lost its first 1B Sea-Tac League game of the season, falling to Mount Rainier Lutheran 10-4 at home.
Jacob Pleines was 2 for 3 with a double and a run for the Rangers, who only managed four hits in Wednesday’s game.
Quilcene (3-1, 4-2) travels to Tacoma today to play the Hawks for the third time this week.
The Rangers won 12-3 in Tuesday’s game.

BREMERTON — The Roughriders split a doubleheader with the Knights, with Jordan Shepherd going the distance on the mound to pick up the win in game one, a 5-2 victory.
“He was super solid,” Port Angeles coach Vic Reykdal said.
“He’s been a victim of some bad breaks this year, some errors and some bloop singles, but he had a really good day.”
Shepherd allowed five hits and two runs in his seven innings of work, striking out eight and walking three.
He also rapped the game-winning hit, a two-run double in the fifth that broke a 2-2 tie.
Logan Ciaciuch was 2 for 4 for the Riders.
Game two was a different story, with Bremerton feasting on three Port Angeles pitchers from the opening inning on en route to a 16-2 win.
Starting pitcher Adam Iseri Fuji struggled, last just two-thirds of an inning and allowing seven runs on four hits and three walks.
“We went with our young crew and Adam got off to a rough start; had some errors in there too and the floodgates kind of opened,” Reykdal said.
Janson Pederson allowed four runs on four hits and a walk in his 2 1/3 innings and Curan Bradley gave up five runs on six hits and two walks to wrap the contest.
Eathen Boyer and Shepherd had RBI singles for the Riders.
Port Angeles (4-5, 4-6) hosts Olympic (6-2, 7-4) today at Civic Field.

BEAVER – The Spartans broke out of their slump by defeating the visiting Mountaineers 4-3.
The Evergreen 1A League victory came in dramatic walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh inning, with puddles growing rapidly under foot and both pitchers struggling with their balance on the slick, sloped mound.
Tied 3-3 going into the final frame, Forks’ Parker Browning started the game-winning rally with an opposite-field single.
Caleb Adams followed with a bunt for a base hit.
Reis Lawson then milked a full count into a free base-on-balls pass, filling the bases full with Javier Contreras due up in the lineup.
Contreras wasted little time lofting a fly ball down the left field line, which scored Browning from third base as a game-winning sacrifice fly.
“We kept the game close and battled the whole time and had an underclassmen step up in a big situation,” Forks coach Wayne Daman said of Tuesday’s game.
“That’s what we need for this program to succeed.”
Contreras (1-3 with a stolen base and an RBI) earned the victory, going the distance on the mound, while giving up just two earned runs, racking up seven strikeouts and issuing just three hits and three walks.
“And just another great start from Javy. He’s been pretty consistent for us, giving pretty quality starts nearly every time out,” Daman said.
A pair of Reeces led the Spartans offensive charge as Reece Hagen went 2 for 2 at the plate with a pair of steals and an RBI, and Reece Moody went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a steal.
Forks (3-5, 1-5 league) is scheduled to play a makeup league doubleheader today at Montesano.
Softball

BREMERTON — Then there were two.
The undefeated Roughriders seemingly turned the Olympic League softball title chase into a two-team race by sweeping a road doubleheader with two previously unbeaten Knights.
That leaves Port Angeles (8-0, 8-2) and Sequim (7-0, 9-1) alone at the top of the league standings. The Wolves and Riders don’t meet until Monday, April 28, in Sequim.
Port Angeles edged Bremerton in the opener 5-4.
“The first game was close due to some base running and defensive errors,” Riders coach Randy Steinman said.
Freshman Nizhoni Wheeler earned the win, striking out 12 and scattering six hits over seven innings. She helped her own cause at the plate with a hit and an RBI.
Carly Gouge and Ashlee Reid both had two hits for Port Angeles and Lauren Lunt scored a pair of runs.
The second game was an entirely different story from the first, with the Riders roughing up the Knights 16-1 in five innings.
Port Angeles put the game away quickly, scoring five runs in the first inning, three in the second and six in the third to take a 14-0 lead.
Reid had three hits, three runs and three RBI, while Tori Kuch went 3 for 4, scored a run and drove in two others.
Gouge remained hot at the plate, as she has been the last few weeks, going 2 for 3 with a pair of runs.
Lunt was a perfect 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs, while Sarah Steinman had a double and scored three runs.
Steinman earned the win by holding the Knights to two hits over four innings.
Port Angels hosts Olympic (3-5, 4-7) today at Dry Creek Elementary.

Sequim second at three-way invite
KINGSTON — The Wolves were a close second at White Horse Golf Club falling to Kingston by four strokes, 284 to 288.
North Kitsap was a distant third at 317.
Kingston’s Aimee Zehrung was the match medalist with a 47.
Sequim freshman Alex McMenamin had the second highest scored with a 48.
Other scores for the Wolves were Brianna Kettel, who shot a 51, Cecilee Welch with a 58, Kailee Price with a 64, Megan O’Mera with a 67 and Kelly Anders with a 68.
Track and Field
Sequim has three double winners
KINGSTON — Sequim’s Waverly Shreffler, Sarah Hutchison and C.J. Daniels each won three events at the five-team meet at Kingston High School.
Shreffler came in first in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes with times of 28.74 seconds and one minute and 3.69 seconds, respectively. She also placed second in the 100-meter dash.
Hutchison placed first in the 100-meter hurdles (18.07 seconds) and the pole vault (9 feet and 6 inches).
C.J. Daniels won the boys 800-meter (2:05.35) and 3,200-meter (10:15.70) runs.
Brendan Despain won the 1,600-meter run for the Sequim boys with a time of 4:47.09.
In the field events, Alex Barry won the javelin with a throw of 153-05. Barry also placed second in the long jump and third in the triple jump.
Jackson Oliver won the high jump with a 6-foot jump and Josh Cibene took first in the pole vault (11-0).
Neah Bay and Clallam Bay also participated in the event and earned many top-five finishes.
For the Neah Bay boys, Josiah Greene won the long jump with an 18-08.5. The senior also was fourth in the 100-meter dash.
Elisha Winck placed second in the triple jump, while Auston Jimmicum was third in both the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles and Everett Greene-Maddalena was fifth in the shot put.
For the Red Devils girls team, Faye Chartraw won the shot put and took fourth in the discus.
The Clallam Bay girls received another standout performance from freshman Molly McCoy, who took second in the 300 hurdles, third in the high jump and fourth in the long jump.
In the long jump, McCoy finished right behind teammate Atokena Abe, who took third.
Sami Metcalf was third in the shot put, Kaylin Signor was fourth in the 3,200 and fifth in the 800, and Zeria Signor was fifth in the discus.
