PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Vig, Rome, Pozernick lead Wolves to win

Port Angeles and Forks also win big; Riders have flurry of home games next week

BELFAIR — The Sequim softball team got a one-hitter from pitcher Lainey Vig, two home runs from Mia Pozernick and a 5-for-5 day from Taylee Rome in a 12-2 win over North Mason on Tuesday.

Three Olympic Peninsula softball teams went 4-0 on the day as local teams blew out the opposition.

Vig ended up pitching a complete game. She allowed one earned run while striking out five as the Wolves moved into third place in the Olympic League.

Pozernick finished the game 4-for-5 with a double and five RBIs. Rome had a double, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Hannah Bates also went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Jordan Kidd was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Michaela Green had a hit, a run scored, an RBI and a walk. Sammie Bacon had a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Sequim (8-3, 8-5) next plays Kingston (5-5, 8-8) at home at 4:15 p.m. today.

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles softball team got a combined three-hitter from Heidi Leitz and Lynzee Reid, a home run from Ava-Anne Sheahan and a pair of doubles from Kennedy Rognlien in a 10-0 win over Bainbridge on Tuesday.

Leitz went four innings and allowed three hits while striking out seven. Reid pitched the fifth inning, picking up a strikeout in a hitless frame.

At the plate, Sheahan was 2-for-2 with a home run and a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Rognlien was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Lexi Smith was 1-for-2 with a run, RBI and walk. Ali Money was 1-for-1 with a run and an RBI and Leitz was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

The victory keeps the Riders (8-2, 13-2) in second place in the Olympic League with Sequim right behind Port Angeles.

The Riders finally get their first crack at first-place North Kitsap (9-0, 12-0) today on the road, then finish the season with three straight home games at Dry Creek Elementary against Kingston on Tuesday, North Kitsap on May 11 and Sequim on May 12.

Forks 11, Ilwaco 1

Forks 13, Ilwaco 2

ILWACO — The Forks softball team crushed Ilwaco in a doubleheader sweep on the road Tuesday, collecting 35 total hits and winning 11-1 and 13-2.

Forks pitchers Lizzy Soto and Chloe Gaydeski combined to allow five hits in the two wins. They also combined for 12 strikeouts as the Spartans solidified their second-place position in the Pacific 2B League with a chance for the league title.

In the opening game, Kadie Wood was 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Keira Johnson also hit 4-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI. Soto hit two doubles, scoring a run and driving in two. Kaidance Rigby was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Bailey Johnson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Soto pitched a complete-game one-hitter, striking out five.

In game 2, Gaydeski pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and two earned runs. She struck out seven.

Bailey Johnson was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Keira Johnson was 4-for-4 with a double and a triple. She scored three runs and drove in two.

Wood was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Kyra Neel was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs and Soto was 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Forks (8-2, 11-3) next plays at 2A Jackson on Friday in a nonleague game.
