PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles struggled to contain Olympic’s running game and fell in its homecoming game 32-19 Friday night at Civic Field.
The Trojans racked up 257 yards on the ground, averaging nearly 8 yards per carry.
Keshun McGee picked up 66 of those yards. He finished with three touchdowns: one on the ground, one on a 79-yard punt return and the other on a 60-yard interception return.
The Roughriders (1-2, 3-2) had running back Miki Andrus for the first time this season. The senior ran for 83 yards on 10 carries and caught four passes for 45 yards.
Olympic built a 25-6 halftime lead, which it extended to 32-6 in the fourth quarter before the Riders scored a pair of late touchdowns, a 16-yard pass from Ryan Rodocker to Kellen Landry and a 4-yard run by Sam Burton.
Port Townsend 56, Chimacum 0
CHIMACUM — Port Townsend’s power rushing attack and a stifling defense put a damper on the return of varsity football to the Chimacum Valley, as the Redhawks rolled past the Cowboys 56-0 Friday.
Chimacum hosted the rivalry game, the first contest held on campus since World War II, according to the public address system.
Port Townsend running back Wesley Wheeler scored on his first carry of the season, powering 61 yards on the game’s second play from scrimmage.
Wheeler rushed four times for 95 yards and two touchdowns, and backfield partner David Sua returned from illness with six carries for 61 yards and two first-half scores as the Redhawks went ahead 42-0 at halftime.
Port Townsend’s backups saw the field for much of the second half.
The Redhawks (2-1, 3-2) will seek revenge for last week’s 29-21 loss to Coupeville at Memorial Field on Friday.
Chimacum (0-3, 0-5) will look for its first win at Klahowya on Thursday.
Centralia 34, Sequim 28, overtime
SEQUIM — The Wolves staged a comeback to force overtime with a pair of second-half touchdowns in Friday’s nonleague game.
The Tigers had the ball first in the extra period and scored to take a 34-28 lead.
Sequim’s attempt to tie or win the game was stuffed on a fourth-and-1 from the Centralia 14-yard line.
The Wolves (1-1, 3-2) return to Olympic League action next week with a home game against North Mason on Friday.
