PREP BASKETBALL: Port Angeles girls beat Franklin Pierce to clinch regionals berth; Sequim boys fall to Foster 67-64

TACOMA — The Port Angeles girls basketball team earned its way to regionals with a 54-28 win over Franklin Pierce at the 2A West Central District tournament at Woodrow Wilson High School on Wednesday night.

Krista Johnson led the Roughriders with 14 points and Kylee Jeffers scored 11.

Port Angeles girls next faces fifth-ranked Sumner on Friday at 6 p.m. at Curtis High School in University Place.

In the boys bracket, Sequim fell to Foster 67-64 on Wednesday night at Curtis High School.

The Wolves now must play ninth-ranked Sumner in a loser-out game on Friday at Bellarmine Prep, 6 p.m.

The winner of that game will play again Saturday for a shot at the districts fifth regionals berth.

Thursday’s Games

The Port Townsend girls and the Neah Bay boys and girls return to postseason action Thursday after winning their respective games Tuesday.

Port Townsend faces a tough test in sixth-ranked King’s in the 1A Tri-District tournament at Lynnwood High School at 4:30 p.m.

The winner earns the Tri-District’s fourth spot at regionals. The loser must play the loser between Blaine and Eatonville for a regionals berth.

The No. 1 Neah Bay boys play Cedar Park Christian-Mountlake Terrace Thursday afternoon in the 1B Tri-District tournament at Mount Vernon Christian High School at 4:30 p.m.

The winner moves on to play the winner between Tulalip Heritage and Shorewood Christian for the Tri-District championship. The loser must win Friday and Saturday to claim a spot at regionals.

The fifth-ranked Neah Bay girls go against Muckleshoot Thursday at 7:30 p.m., also at Mount Vernon Christian High School.

As with the boys game, the winner moves on the Tri-District championship game, while the loser must win again Friday and Saturday to earn a regionals berth.
