PREP BASKETBALL: Neah Bay boys and girls open season with wins over Taholah

TAHOLAH — The Neah Bay boys and girls basketball teams finally opened their respective seasons, and both picked up wins on the road against Taholah.

The boys beat the Chitwins 89-78 behind the scoring of Ryan Moss and Kenrick Doherty Jr.

The girls game was a rematch of the state tournament showdown between the Red Devils and the Chitwins earlier this year.

Even without Cierra Moss scoring 40 points for Neah Bay — as the current Peninsula College player did in a 72-40 win at state — Saturday’s game went about the same as their March meeting: the Red Devils winning big, by a nearly identical 74-40 score.

Senior Faye Chartraw led Neah Bay this time with 22 points on 10 of 15 shooting from the field. Chartraw also pulled down nine rebounds and had four steals.

The Red Devils forced 35 turnovers in the game, including 23 steals.

Hailey Greene led the heist with five steals. Chartraw and Kaela Tyler had four, Gina McCaulley added three and Jessica Greene, Tristin Johnson and Blaire Hill each had two.

Tyler and Jessica Greene also had double-figure scoring outputs for Neah Bay with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Johnson scored nine and Hailey Greene contributed eight.

Tyler also had six rebounds and four assists. Hailey Greene also had four assists and Jessica Greene dished out three.

The Neah Bay girls and boys host their first home games of the season Friday against the teams of Cedar Park Christian of Mountlake Terrace.
